After lunch, during which the issues continued to be discussed informally, delegates were shown the Panorama film about the abuse at the Castlebeck care home. This altered the mood of the delegates, although it was a stark reminder to everyone about what can happen when things go wrong. Following this, there were 5 presentations that showcased best practice and ideas: Brigid Stacey, Derbyshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, “Leading for Quality” Gaynor Wars, Derbyshire Health Foundation Trust, “Access to mental health service made easier” Alfonzo Tramantano, Chesterfield Royal Hospital Foundation Trust, “Dignity in Care” Kath Henderson and colleagues, Derbyshire Community Health Services, Hayley Veal and Steph Austin, Heads of Clinical Quality (Commissioning) PCT cluster, “Quality Assurance in care homes across Derbyshire” The delegates were then asked to consider what next? It was hoped that the momentum would not be lost and that everyone could be ambassadors of the day. One member of a patient group noted that his vision would be that professionals volunteered their „know how‟ but that this had many constraints. It was asked how we can harness leadership capability across sectors. The passion, the energy and positivity in the room was acknowledged and delegates were reminded that they all have a responsibility for improving and communicating ideas, which should be a top priority. Patients require integrated, seamless care but we also need to value staff and motivate the workforce. Professor Guy Daly remarked that it was crucial for education and practice to collaborate, and work together on good graduate programmes. 24
