Motorists are reminded that students are now back to school. The reduced posted speed limit of 30 km/h in all school zones is in force
from 8 am to 5 pm on all regular school days. In Canada, pedestrian incidents are the leading cause of death for children under the age of
14. Most incidents occur between 3 and 6 pm, when motorists are coming home from work and when children may be walking home from
school. To help make it safer in the school zone, consider leaving your car at home and encouraging your child to walk or bike; organize a
walking school bus; or carpool with other families.
Tips for Motorists:
• Slow down and drive with extra care
around schools and play grounds.
• Drop off and pick up your child on a
less congested street.
• Always yield to pedestrians in
crosswalks.
• Be alert to vehicles stopped in the
lane next to you as they may be
yielding for a pedestrian.
• Do not stop in “No Parking” or “No
Stopping” zones or designated bike
lanes.
SCHOOL IS BACK...
DRIVE WITH CARE!
Tips for Pedestrians:
• Make eye contact with drivers before
crossing the street so you know they
see you and they know you see them.
• Look left, then right, then left again.
• Never jaywalk! Always use the
crosswalk.
• Remove your headphones and put
away your phone when crossing the
street.
