HOW have SAGP is to up lift the socio – economic status of the rural poor elderly. It helps<br />
they<br />
older people to clam their rights challenges, discrimination & over come<br />
benefitted poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure active & healthy lives. For<br />
making them independent self Help group are formed to provide economical<br />
and social support for the elder persons who are mostly neglected by coming<br />
generation. This work is accordance with the national policy and adopts<br />
public participatory approach for solving the problems of the area.<br />
3. PROJECT ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS<br />
PROVIDE PRIMARY REQUISITE MEDICARE:<br />
Fortnightly Medical consultations were provided in the community for Elders who did not have<br />
access to Primary Health Care facility. The elder’s person including community members<br />
availed free medical facilities. 24 medical consolations camps were organized during past 6 th<br />
months. The project staffs made successful efforts to tie up with local govt. dispensary for free<br />
medicine which provided to the beneficiaries in the camps. Through these camps the elders are<br />
leading a healthy life. Total 710 elders and community members have got primary medical
facilities at their door steps. Apart of medical consultations, 44 Physiotherapy consultations<br />
have been done from October 2011- Feb 2012 in which 430 SaGP direct and indirect<br />
beneficiaries got treatment on each Monday. Through the ophthalmic services provided by the<br />
SaGP project, 300 beneficiaries were screened for ophthalmic services out of which 50<br />
beneficiaries received non ophthalmic services and 36 beneficiaries under gone cataract<br />
surgeries.<br />
ESHG FORMATION:<br />
During the Period all 30 ESHGs have successfully opened their<br />
saving bank a/c, Group mobilization process went on through<br />
meetings, where the rules and regulation of self help group,<br />
meetings, savings, record keeping and economic development<br />
of groups was undertaken. After long & lot of discussions<br />
about the Grading of the all 30 ESHGs has been completed in<br />
the month of January 2012 in which 9 ESHG groups having<br />
Grad A & other 21 Groups Grad B. the grading process done by<br />
the Sarpanch of Different villages. In the month of March 2012<br />
<strong>Helpage</strong> <strong>India</strong> got the prior permission from M.H.A then 17<br />
ESHGs have received Livelihood seed Capital directly in to their bank A/c. The ESHGs members<br />
started Badi Making collectively which helped them enhance their spending capacity.<br />
TRAINING OF ELDER SELF HELP GROUPS ON DISASTER RISK REDUCTION:<br />
The project area is situated around shiwalik foothills. The risk of<br />
floods, dangerous wild animals, drought, and wild fire is often<br />
occurring here. There was the need to give this type of training to the<br />
elderly as well as communities. The programme was organized on 27<br />
Feb to 1 march 2012. Sh. Harbhajan Singh (SDM Nurpur Bedi) was the<br />
chief guests of the function. The group president secretary, treasure<br />
& the volunteers were of ESHG got training.<br />
ADVOCACY:<br />
In this respect we also help the poor, widow, aged, handicapped person to provide and apply<br />
their Govt. Pension forms for their Social Security. Under the activity 59 applications were filed<br />
for old age pension out which 12 elders got sanctioned for the same. 10 applications were filed<br />
for BPL card which is in process. Apart of it 50 elders applied for Senior Citizen Card and got it.<br />
25 elders were linked to MGNRERGA for livelihood. The senior citizen day was also celebrated<br />
on 3 Oct 2011 at 5 different village in which 445 beneficiaries, social worker, community<br />
members, has participated in the function. This activity aimed to generate awareness among<br />
the large mass about RIGHTS AND ENTITLEMENT of elders through NUKKAD NATAK. These<br />
advocacy activities create a supportive atmosphere toward the problems of older peoples as<br />
more and more people will become sensitized toward the issues. On that day a demand letter<br />
also submit to DC- Ropar through the SDM Nurpur bedi.<br />
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES:<br />
To make the elderly psychologically, socially fit, the recreational activities were performed on<br />
monthly basis. These recreational activities include as given bellow on monthly basis.<br />
1. Religious songs/ Bhajan Kirtan were held at Nurpur Bedi on Monthly Basis.<br />
2. Yoga activities were held at the Centre.
PILGRIMAGE TOUR:<br />
First pilgrimage tour under SaGP DI Project Ropar was organized on 3/11/2011 in which 57<br />
Male Female Elders and field Staff of the project visited to Mata Chintpurni Devi Mandir at<br />
District Una, Himachal Predesh. On the other hand there is positive change in the lives of<br />
elderly; they also participate in social activities. The counselling is also provided to them time to<br />
time for their adjustment in families.<br />
4. Plans for the next 6 months:<br />
Continuing basic health care to all direct indirect beneficiaries<br />
Strengthen all Elder self help Groups and create some livelihood activities/Business in all<br />
projected villages trained them, form 3 village level and 1 district level ESHG Federation.<br />
Organising two or three Training/ capacity building program for ESHG in which all Elder Self<br />
help Groups can improve their internal & external functioning.<br />
In advocacy Program we want to organising a big (2 or 3 days) Elder Mela where we focus on<br />
improving the level of awareness of health and hygiene among the Elderly & all community<br />
with Help of National Rural Health Mission. And also aware about all State & central<br />
Government Social Security Schemes with the Help of District & State Administration.<br />
Demonstration/ Microfinance Linkage facilities by the Bank & Microfinance institutions for<br />
ESHG’s.
