Altogether 24 people benefited through Primary and requisite health care. This health care has<br />

been provided by St Joseph’s Home <strong>for</strong> the Aged, <strong>Goa</strong>. Doctor regularly comes to the old age<br />

home and conducts health check up of residents. This service also made available to the people<br />

who live in the community.<br />

The family members of the older people who are residing in the community are getting to know<br />

about the elders rights and entitlements.<br />

<strong>Project</strong> activities carried out in the past 6 months<br />

Health Care<br />

Implementing agency had organised 12 health checks up camps <strong>for</strong> the beneficiaries in the<br />

premises of old age home. Beneficiaries also received instruction on physical exercises to keep<br />

up their movements as per the requirement. School children regularly visit old age home to<br />

interact with the elderly people. Residents get relaxation and com<strong>for</strong>ts by this interaction.<br />

Various Association members also visited old age home frequently and provide support to the<br />

agency to look after the destitute.


Commodity support<br />

All 24 destitute beneficiaries receive commodity support under SAGP project. Along with SAGP<br />

project support agency also provide additional support to the older people. Food items also<br />

distributed to older people who live in the community and part of the SAGP project.<br />

Recreation<br />

Many events were organised in the old age home to provide recreation to the elderly. Local<br />

parish volunteers visits frequently to the agency. All beneficiaries have time to relax and get<br />

encouragement to organise programmes in the old age home <strong>for</strong> the benefit of residents.<br />

People get com<strong>for</strong>ts through group work. Beneficiaries also watch Television in the old age<br />

home. They also celebrate all festivals and exchange the greetings.<br />

Advocacy initiatives<br />

<strong>Goa</strong> government provides monthly pension Rs 1000/- <strong>for</strong> all below poverty line people. Agency<br />

has taken some initiatives to avail this to all eligible people. In addition to that Government also<br />

supports senior citizens through day-care centre. Senior citizens <strong>for</strong>um is working <strong>for</strong> the<br />

benefit of all older people in <strong>Goa</strong> state.<br />

Changes or improvements on the lives of the beneficiaries as a result of the project<br />

People live with dignity and respect in the old age home. All the residents are very happy.<br />

Recreation made them to <strong>for</strong>get their past bitter experiences. People also get food on time; it<br />

helped them to keep up their health.<br />

Challenges faced in the last 6 months and steps taken to overcome the challenges<br />

Sometimes it is difficult to get Government help <strong>for</strong> beneficiaries who are in the old age home.<br />

People who live in the old age home are not considered as destitute. Agency was able to<br />

convince the government officials to accept the application <strong>for</strong> the pensions.<br />

Plans <strong>for</strong> the next 6 months<br />

1. Physiotherapy unit will be in operation and planned to provide therapies to all people, who<br />

are in need.<br />

2. Commodity support will be given to all destitute people who are in need.<br />

3. Local support also mobilised to provide long term support and to give additional benefits to<br />

the beneficiaries. It will help agency to move towards the self sustainability.<br />

4. Frequently recreational programmes will be organised to provide emotional support and<br />

relaxation.<br />

5. Counselling services to be made available to all needy people.<br />

6. Adequate support will be provided to get Government ID cards.<br />

7. Linkages will be initiated more in the next 6 months to avail Government benefits.<br />

8. Networking with local Associations will be increased.
