Church Walks
Dunstan Steads Walk
June 2009
Once again we were blessed with perfect weather for this walk. From just
below Dunstan Steads farm we walked along the track to the western side of
the Golf Course. There were sky larks singing away above us, while on
either side of the track were wild flowers and grasses of different colours and
textures. After taking the long route round the edge of a field we reached
the entrance to Dunstanburgh Castle and most of us then walked down
towards the sea and sat on the grass to enjoy watching the sea and birds.
The kittiwakes and fulmars soared on the wind or were busy around their
nesting sites on the cliff face. We then followed the path round on the
landward side of the Castle and after walking along the top of the dunes
went down on to the almost empty beach. This was probably the best part
of the walk as far as the 2 dogs were concerned!
We had lunch at the Dunstanburgh Golf Course Club House, which is
always good value. Another 6 non-walkers joined us for this which was
good. Travelling home afterwards I think we all felt that we had had another
wonderful walk and were all so lucky to live in this beautiful part of the
world.
