Mission: East Cooper Meals on Wheels is an<br />
organization whose primary mission is to deliver daily<br />
nutrition to residents within our service area who are<br />
homebound or unable to provide their own meals. We<br />
also advocate on behalf of recipients whose needs<br />

Volunteer Opportunities: Packers - package meals for<br />
delivery drivers - pick up and deliver meals;<br />
administrative support - general office work; event<br />
support - various duties.<br />
Training: Training for packing is required. Training for<br />
meal delivery is required and consists of actually<br />
driving the route with a trainer. Drivers must be able<br />
to commit to at least 2 hours per week. Packers must<br />
be able to commit at least 1 hour a week.<br />
Minimum Age: 18 for packers; 21 for drivers.<br />
Requirements: SLED background Checks, valid Driver's<br />
License, and valid auto insurance.<br />
Wish List: Low Salt/Low Sugar shelf stable food,<br />

Volunteer Opportunities: Interpret history of<br />
Middleton Place in the Gardens, House Museum and<br />
Stableyards as a guide to the public. Provide<br />
information to guests about the natural history of the<br />
National Historic Landmark property and the history of<br />
the Middleton family and the enslaved Africans who<br />
inhabitied it. Volunteers may also conduct guided<br />
house tours at Edmondston-Alston House in<br />
downtown Charleston.<br />
Training: Training classes and information packets are<br />
provided for all opportunities.<br />

Volunteer Opportunities: Assist clothing team (sort,<br />
hang up, take down); assist food packers (during<br />
pantry operation's hours). Offer ESL classes for<br />
members of large Hispanic community, and literacy<br />
classes for teens/adults who need to read better. Help<br />
with general facility repairs and special projects.<br />
Training: Volunteers would be assigned to work with<br />
teams who would "shadow" them. ESL and literacy<br />
classes would require training that would be provided.<br />
Minimum Age: 15; anyone under 18 must have<br />
parental permission.<br />
Requirements: All volunteers 18 and older who may<br />
work with minors must complete an application with<br />
references and a criminal background is performed.<br />
Wish List: Clothing, shoes, linens (bed/bath) all clean<br />
and in good repair. Non perishable foods and<br />
