Adult S<strong>of</strong>tball Rule Exceptions/Clarifications<br />

Summer 2008<br />

1. The <strong>of</strong>ficial rules shall be those adopted by <strong>the</strong> Amateur S<strong>of</strong>tball Association <strong>of</strong> America (A.S.A.).<br />

0/team/game with <strong>the</strong> ½ inning ending when a homerun is hit<br />

3. Teams must be ready at game time or when <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficials call for <strong>the</strong> pre-game coaches meeting,<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rwise a forfeit will be declared. If nei<strong>the</strong>r team has 8 players <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> team with <strong>the</strong> most<br />

players will win by forfeit. If both teams have no players or <strong>the</strong> same amount <strong>of</strong> players, <strong>the</strong>n a<br />

double forfeit will be declared. If this occurs during <strong>to</strong>urnament play, a coin <strong>to</strong>ss will determine<br />

<strong>the</strong> placement <strong>of</strong> teams in <strong>the</strong> bracket.<br />

Teams must be able <strong>to</strong> field at least 8 players <strong>to</strong> start a game.<br />

a. "Ghost Outs" are placed in <strong>the</strong> highest possible position <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> line-up at <strong>the</strong> first and/or<br />

second positions.<br />

b. In Co-Ed <strong>the</strong> defensive rule and <strong>the</strong> alternating batting order rule may not be altered.<br />

c. If a Co-Ed team shows up with eight (8) players, five (5) <strong>of</strong> one sex and three (3) <strong>of</strong><br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> first and third batting positions will be used as ghost-outs.<br />

d. In keeping with <strong>the</strong> benefits <strong>of</strong> recreational sports, teams may finish with fewer players<br />

than <strong>the</strong>y started with (<strong>to</strong> a minimum <strong>of</strong> 8 players). However, you may not drop in number<br />

due <strong>to</strong> an ejection. This rule will not be considered grounds for protest.<br />

e. If a team enters <strong>the</strong> International Tie-Breaker with Ghost Outs and a ghost out<br />

causes <strong>the</strong> last out in <strong>the</strong> inning before <strong>the</strong> tie breaker or during <strong>the</strong> tie breaker,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong>re will be no runner on second base for that team.<br />

4. There is a time limit <strong>of</strong> 50 minutes on each game for slow pitch and 70 minutes for fast pitch.<br />

5. 1 & 1 count in all slow pitch <strong>league</strong>s. Every player in slow pitch steps up <strong>to</strong> bat with a 1 ball and<br />

1 strike count. Fast pitch will begin with a 0 & 0 count.<br />

6. The run rule for slow pitch is 20 runs after 3 innings, 15 runs after 4 innings and 10 runs after 5<br />

innings. Fast pitch is 15 runs after 3 innings, 12 runs after 4 innings and 8 runs after 5 innings.<br />

7. When <strong>the</strong> game is tied after time or 7 innings has expired, <strong>the</strong> International Tie-Breaker will go<br />

in<strong>to</strong> effect. The last batter <strong>to</strong> complete his/her turn at bat will start <strong>the</strong> inning on second base.<br />

This format will continue until a winner is determined.<br />

8. The <strong>of</strong>ficial scorekeeper is <strong>the</strong> responsibility <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> home team. If <strong>the</strong> score is in doubt <strong>the</strong> umpire<br />

will compare scorebooks and resolve any discrepancies.
