In addition, any other method reasonably expected to provide notification may be utilized, including, but not<br />

limited to:<br />

o posting a copy <strong>of</strong> the notice in a prominent place at the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the sheriff and at the police station closest<br />

to the declared residence <strong>of</strong> the released criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender,<br />

o publicizing the notice in a local newspaper, or<br />

o posting electronically, including the Internet, or other means available.<br />

ALA. CODE § 15-20-26 (West 2010)<br />

(a) Unless otherwise exempted by law, no adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender shall establish a residence or any other living<br />

accommodation or accept employment within 2,000 feet <strong>of</strong> the property on which any school, including, but no t<br />

limited to, an elementary or secondary school and a college university, or child care facility is located.<br />

(b) Unless otherwise exempted b law, no adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender shall establish a residence or any other living<br />

accommodation within 1000 feet <strong>of</strong> the property on which any <strong>of</strong> his or her former victims, or the victims’<br />

immediate family members reside.<br />

(c) No adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender shall establish a residence or any other living accommodation where a minor<br />

resides. Notwithstanding the foregoing, an adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender may reside with a minor if the adult criminal<br />

sex <strong>of</strong>fender is the parent, grandparent, or stepparent <strong>of</strong> the minor, unless one <strong>of</strong> the following conditions applies:<br />

1) The adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender’s parental rights have been or are in the process <strong>of</strong> being terminated as<br />

provided by law.<br />

2) The adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender has been convicted <strong>of</strong> any criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fense in which any <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>of</strong>fender’s minor children, grandchildren or stepchildren were the victim.<br />

3) The adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender has been convicted <strong>of</strong> any criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fense in which a minor was<br />

the victim and the minor resided or lived with the <strong>of</strong>fender at the time <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>fense.<br />

4) The adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender has ever been convicted <strong>of</strong> any criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fense involving a child,<br />

regardless <strong>of</strong> whether the <strong>of</strong>fender was related to or shared residence with the child victim.<br />

(d) No adult criminal sex <strong>of</strong>fender shall willfully or knowingly come within 100 feet <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> his or her former<br />

** Denotes those states where sex <strong>of</strong>fender registration is required for convictions under the staff sexual misconduct laws <strong>of</strong> the states. Staff and<br />

inmates could also be required to register as sex <strong>of</strong>fenders if the <strong>of</strong>fense were charged under other registrable <strong>of</strong>fenses.<br />
