letter from the publisher
It’s school time again and my wife is
feeling a little excited and a little sad that
summer break is coming to an end. Area
stores can be a madhouse with everyone
looking for this year’s school supplies
and clothes! The sales tax holiday,
August 21-23, 2009 will be especially
crazy. It makes you think the economy
is on an upswing. From experience, we
know kids can feel nervous or a little
scared on the first day of school. There
are so many new things taking place this time of year. Who
will their new teacher be, will they have any friends in their
class, will they make new friends, but fortunately these
worries are not around for long. This year we find ourselves
in a new situation. Our oldest is getting ready to start his
college career and our youngest is going into fourth grade.
What a gap! It just seems like yesterday our oldest was
starting kindergarten and now by most accounts he is a full
fledge adult. Where did that time go?
To think, the little guy that was once so cute and
cuddly is now taller than both of us and is in the transition
from living at home to out on his own. Our youngest son
is looking forward to school starting but has to get back on
a school schedule. He likes to stay up late and sleep in late,
reminding me of most of our oldest son’s teenage years. This
is the unfortunate reminder that time is passing too quickly
with him too. Before I know it, I will have another one
heading off to college. However, this is where the gap in the
ages starts to look good! With any luck, we may be finished
paying off the first ones school before the second one starts.
Dr. Jill Sentlingar Participants will then go to the participating dental office to receive their
has a unique services. This is a first come, first serve event, so arriving early would be
understanding of people.
I met her when she first
started her practice in
2004 and knew she would
be a success. My first
impression of Dr. Jill was
that she was optimistic,
best. Dr. Jill and her team believe that providing education along with
prevention is essential in creating a healthy lifestyle for the members of
the community. Kim, the Doctor Coordinator at Prosper Family Dentistry
said, “I enjoy working with Dr. Jill because she is so kind hearted to our
patients as well as to our entire staff. Who wouldn’t want to work for a
dentist with such a kind heart and gentle touch for dentistry?” This theme
is consistent with all of the Prosper Family Dentistry team. Dr. Jill’s team
sincere and had an has longevity because she offers such a pleasant working environment.
inimitable understanding However, with a growing business she has brought new members to the
of people. My first team. “Being the newest employee to the team, I already feel comfortable
impression has proved to
be correct. Over the years,
she has built a successful
and very welcomed,” says Taylor, the Administrative Assistant. Lorrie, the
Front Desk Patient Coordinator said, “My short time working for Dr. Jill
has shown me the compassion she has toward others whether it is dental
dental practice in related or on a personal level. “
Prosper and has In 2006, Dr. Jill enhanced her practice by bringing on her former
bridged together a dedicated team within her practice and connected
a community of dentists that are standing beside her to give back to the
children in the 380 corridor. Gwen, who has been the Office Manager for
Dr. Jill since the beginning of her practice told 380Guide, “I am proud to
represent Dr. Jill as the Office Manager simply for the fact that from day
one her goal has been the same: give each patient quality dental care and
treat others as you would want to be treated. She not only treats staff and
patients dental needs but genuinely cares for their whole well being. She
likes to keep things fun; instill a high level of training and confidence in
each of us while creating a great work environment.”
A little over a year ago, Dr. Jill and I got together at her office, where
she shared with me her plan to give back to the community, which had
classmate from Baylor University and long time friend Dr. Lara Thurman.
She knew Dr. Lara would be a perfect addition because of their close
convictions and devotion to dentistry, family and the community. The two
Dentists have worked together to volunteer throughout the community
by regularly honoring area educators and volunteering with the area
elementary schools. Dr. Lara has been a huge asset to the dental practice.
Dr. Jill is considered a gentle dentist because she is always making the
dental experience as pleasant as possible. ““She’s confident in her quality
of dentistry. She keeps up with the latest technology,” says her Dental
Hygienist, Micca. Dr. Jill’s father had a fear of dentist so she has made
every effort to making your time with her practice a relaxing experience.
“She constantly strives to make the office better [for everyone]” says
welcomed her with open arms when she started her practice a few years Denise, Dental Assistant. Dr. Jill even has one of the newest dental
earlier. She was going to start an annual event where she would offer
children in the area free dental screenings, fluoride treatments and
sealants. She kicked off the First Annual Sealant Day last year by going
all out. Not only did she offer the dental screenings, fluoride treatments
and sealants to the children in the 380 corridor but she had drinks, snacks,
procedures, Waterlase, that utilizes laser dentistry to gently perform a
wide range of dental procedures. “I enjoy working with Dr. Jill because she
is very passionate about her work and I can always trust her judgment in
dentistry,” says Dental Hygienist, Staci.
Dr. Jill is also a mentor to many up and coming new dentists. She
t-shirts and pencil bags full of dental products. The fire department opens her doors for them to come in and visit her practice and answers their
arrived with their fire trucks and the police provided complimentary
identification cards for the children that participated. Dr. Jill did more
that day then she may have realized. She not only gave from her heart but
she brought a community together. She had more volunteers than she
expected, which was such a pleasant surprise and a direct testament of how
special Dr. Jill truly is. Not only is she embraced by her team at her dental
practice but by most people that she encounters. “I enjoy working for Dr.
Jill because she is very family oriented and has a wonderful personality to
everyone she meets in business,” says Raecin, one of the Dental Assistants,
questions to help them get their practices up and running. She donates her
time to Baylor University and speaks to the students that are on their way to
becoming dentists. She donates her dentistry time to community programs
such as Give Kids a Smile and the Lost Boys of Sudan. These programs
provide dentistry at no charge to the patients. “She’s sympathetic to [her
staff’s] family obligations, says Christon, Dental Hygienist. With all of this
she also manages to be a devoted mother to her two precious children. If you
have not met Dr. Jill, you will be amazed when you meet this radiant dentist.
She is inspiring and
at Prosper Family Dentistry. Jean Beaty, the Vice President of Prosper dedicated to her
Bank recently shared with me, “The passion Dr. Jill has for her profession family, practice and
never ends at the door of her beautiful dental office in Prosper. Dr. Jill’s her community.
commitment to her community is visible on site at the elementary schools,
at the local Arts & Music Festival, or engaged at the local food pantry. Dr.
Jill’s smile is well-known throughout the area, and her generosity and
dedication to great dental health for all ages are positively contagious!”
The Second Annual Sealant Day, will be a community affair, dentists from
Prosper and Celina came onboard to assist with her good will. The date
She not only builds
bridges, as in dental
bridges, but bridges
people together in
the community and
everywhere so goes.
to save is, Saturday, August 29, 2009. This year between 8:00- 11:00 am,
numbers and registration packets will be handed out in front of Prosper
Family Dentistry, located at 201 North Preston Road in Prosper, Texas.
y Dena Miller
That ‘ s what I ‘ m frequently asked when I mention that I ‘ ll be at
the polo match this weekend. So, Cowboy, I ‘ m going to tell you
about polo in Texas !
To begin with, you might first be wondering what is polo? Is it a
water sport? There is water polo, but no, Partner, we ‘ re talking about
the kind that requires a horse! And the ability to hit a small white ball
with a bamboo stick (called a mallet) through two goal posts while
traveling about 40 mph, while staying on that horse!
A little history: Polo was first played in ancient Persia some 2,600
years ago. The word “polo” is derived from the Tibetan word for ball,
“pulu”.The sport was first introduced to our country in 1876 by American
publisher James Gordon Bennett, owner of the New York Herald and
an avid sportsman. He organized the first polo match in the United
States at Dickel ‘ s Riding Academy at 39th Street and Fifth Avenue. In
the spring of 1876, a group of polo players established the first formal
American polo club, the Westchester Polo Club,
at the Jerome Park race track in New York .
in the 1930 ‘ s, when polo was
a sport of the rich, a Texan named Cecil
Smith began a career that made him
perhaps the greatest player in the history
of a game more than 2,000 years old.
At age 20 he went to work for a
horse trainer in Austin who
also trained polo ponies.
Cecil fashioned a polo
mallet out of a broom stick
and practiced using rocks
and tin cans. On trips to
California to sell polo ponies
(which are really horses),
Smith started playing polo
there with such celebrities as
Will Rogers, Darryl Zanuck,
Walt Disney and Reginald
Denny. Cecil was one of the
first 6 players indicted to
the Polo Museum and
Hall of Fame when it opened in 1990.
Famed restaurateur and Olympic equestrian, Norman Brinker,
is credited with bringing polo to North Texas . founding the Willow
Bend Polo & Hunt Club in Plano . Willowbend Polo Club reigned as
the premier Polo club in the south until 1993 when Mr. Brinker had a
terrible accident in West Palm Beach , Florida that put him in a coma
for three weeks and partially paralyzed him for 3 months. Willowbend
Polo Club was sold and developed. The histroical sign still remains at
the entrance of million dollar homes. He was inducted into the Polo Hall
of Fame in 1999, having captured the two biggest prizes of American
polo, the USPA Gold Cup and the U.S. Open in 1976. He was former
chairman of the United States Polo Association. Norman continued to
love and support the sport of polo, often being seen at International polo
club in Wellington , Florida enjoying a US Open or at Dallas premiere
polo event, Polo on the Lawn benefiting The Family Place. He and his
wife Toni were honorary chairs of the illustrious event in 2008.
North Texas still has polo going on in backyards, pastures and
even a city park, but until now there has been no world class polo club
like Willowbend since it ‘ s closing. In 2008 real estate mogul and polo
player Vaughn Miller opened Prestonwood Polo and Country Club in
Oak Point with the intent to bring polo to its rightful status in North
Texas . With wife Dena, whose mission with Ladies Polo Auxiliary,
founded in 2005, is to spread the word that polo is played in Texas
and is accessible to anyone ,brings polo matches and events every
Saturday during polo season and is open to the public at only $10 a car
(excepting special charity events).Enjoy elevated grandstand seating
with the sun to your back and a view of gorgeous trees and lakes while
taking in the thoroughbred action and sideline socializing. Taligating
and picknicking on the lawn are also acceptable, BYOB and enjoy a
traditional champagne divot stomp compliments of Freixenet. Special
events are hosted in the 20 ‘ x80 ‘ party pavilion and is available to host
any corporate, family or charity function. All of this will always be
available to the public and coming in the near future is the 3rd addition
to Prestonwood Country Club- a clubhouse, pool and tennis courts with
stabling, riding trails and homesites will be offered around polo fields.
Fabulous
at Forty
I
by Kyla Welch
t has been said that “life begins at 40.” If that
is true, then Denton Community Theatre’s life
truly begins with the upcoming 2009-2010 Season.
Most people, who have been involved with DCT in past
decades, would probably disagree. The organization
does have a rich history of great productions, events,
volunteers, and awards. There have been countless
changes over the years; in personnel, venue, policies,
procedures, and types of events. One thing remains
constant and can be directly attributed to DCT’s longevity
– a supportive community of volunteers and businesses
that work hard and care about community theatre. Luckily,
as DCT celebrates 40 consecutive seasons, there are still
dedicated people both on and off stage that are committed to
the success of this organization.
The community that makes DCT possible invites you to c o m e
celebrate 40 fabulous years with them. The 2009-2010 Season opens
with a modern classic comedy, Plaza Suite by Neil Simon. Unlike other
productions of this work, director Sean Frith plans to set each of the three
stories of Suite 719 in a different decade that will mirror the DCT’s own
lifetime. Next up will be another “look back” with DCT’s production of
Forever Plaid by Stuart Ross which features some of the most memorable
popular music from the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Last Christmas DCT
audiences were treated to a Victorian flavored Christmas celebration
featuring a British “Panto” and Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This year
DCT audiences will travel just down the road – to Tuna, Texas with
DCT’s A Tuna Christmas by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard.
Who doesn’t need a laugh to relieve the stress that the holidays can
bring?
Romance and a clash of swords punctuate the classic tale of
Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand. Running the first two weeks
of February, 2010, look
for Valentine specials to
sweeten your experience
for this show! Reserve
your tickets early for the
next show, because every
child and child-at-heart
will be heading to the Campus
Theatre for DCT’s next production:
Cinderella by Richard Rodgers
and Oscar Hammerstein II will be
produced in April. Summer takes
DCT audiences to the beach of
Mismaloya, Mexico with Tennessee
Williams’ intense drama, Night of the Iguana. Next, the Campus stage
will be lit up for one weekend only with the musical fundraiser that is
sure to be a spectacular celebration. DCT ends this historic season with
the uproariously funny musical, The Producers by Mel Brooks, Glen
Kelly and Thomas Meehan.
This doesn’t even begin to cover the many other ongoing programs,
classes, seminars and other events that DCT will host over the year. To
keep up with the latest that DCT has to offer, including audition and
show dates, visit www.dentoncommunitytheatre.com often.
Here is a toast to 40 successful years gone by, and to the next 40 years of
entertaining and educating the Denton area.
Darkroom
to Digital
by Andrea Hikel
U
sing a hybrid of different technologies in order to
transform an image from its rawest, original form
into a beautiful finished product is an exciting process. Many
photographers who have had experience with both film and digital
may argue that digital takes the personal touch out of photography,
but after speaking with Tom Judd I feel that this is not so. “I have
complete control over the final print,” says Judd, “I do all of my
work from the initial capture to exhibition.” Though he may alter
images slightly, by digitally pushing the boundaries of color for
instance, he typically limits those “enhancements” to the same
kinds of interpretations that he might have achieved by choosing
on particular film stock over another, years ago.
Tom Judd grew up in the rural Hudson River Valley region of New
York State. When he was young, he would develop prints in the
darkroom with his dad. In high school, he enjoyed working on
the school newspaper and yearbook. He graduated from Southern
Illinois University in 1980 with a B.A. in Professional Photography
and opened Thomas Judd Photography in Denton, TX in 1983.
Today, Judd uses his 26+ years of experience to take amazing
pictures for corporate events, editorial, marketing, pageants,
headshots and portraits.
When traveling, Judd enjoys taking photos of wildlife and nature
scenes. “I find inspiration when I travel,” says Judd, “I search for
great textures, patterns, shapes, contrasts and bold colors. I like
clean compositions. I enjoy the look and feel of three dimensions
in a two-dimensional medium.” He has visited places such as
Wyoming, New Mexico, Michigan, and New York bringing
back digital memories to share with others. His outstanding
photographs allow viewers to witness real life scenes that they
would have otherwise never gotten to experience. Birds seem to fly
right off the paper and nature scenes come alive with each photo.
Tom Judd’s work can be found on display at Oxide Gallery in Denton
and he is also a member of VAST. Private photography lessons are
available and Thomas Judd Photography is always looking for
enthusiastic, hard-working interns. For more information on Tom
Judd’s photography, private lessons or internship opportunities,
90 Days is not
the Same
as Cash
We have all been there. You walk thru an electronics store
looking at all of the toys and suddenly it hits you. You
NEED a big screen TV. Never mind the 4 other TV’s that you currently
have at home that you haven’t watched in some time. Then you see those
magic words “90 Days Same as Cash”. You are certain this is a sign that
you have the green light to buy. With the money that you will save on
interest, you can’t afford not to buy it. After all haven’t you always heard
it is smart to use OPM (Other people money)? You get free use of their
money for 90 days and you can keep yours in the bank earning that
whopping 1.5% interest.
Maybe you don’t have the money in the bank, but you are sure that
within 90 days you can scrape up enough money to pay the TV off. Do
you know what happens if you miss a payment or you pay the balance
off on day 91? You get charged interest, sometimes huge interest and
maybe some penalty with it. Statistics show that 70% of the “same as
cash” contracts don’t get paid off within the allotted time. Whether it is
for 90 days or for 1 year with no interest, 7 out of 10 people still end up
paying the interest.
Oh but I am the exception to that rule you say. Hmmmm, any
worries about layoffs at work? Think that gas may not double in price
from where it currently is which would strain your budget? What about
that money in the bank? Have you ever experienced an emergency that
drained your bank account like a vehicle repair or medical emergency?
There is some risk isn’t there?
How about this idea? Save the money and just pay for it. Why take
that risk of having to pay the interest? If you don’t have the money now,
have you ever thought about saving for the TV first and then going to
buy it? If you could pay off the loan in 90 days it should be no problem
in saving the money in 90 days. Here is another reason 90 days is not the
same as cash, discounts. If you have cash you can negotiate. Now we are
talking about saving some serious money. A client of mine’s daughter
needed braces. The total cost was $2200 and the Orthodontist was
offering no interest for 6 months. That’s a little over $350 dollars per
month and was something that my client could afford in his monthly
budget. We talked about the options and the client ended up waiting the
six months and saving the money to pay cash but that is not the end of the
story. He was able to walking in with 18 crisp Ben Franklins and offered
all cash up front for his daughter braces. Guess what? The Orthodontist
accepted it for a $400 dollar savings! Another client of mine had her air
conditioner go out and because of the age of it, she needed to replace the
whole unit. She called me to help her re-do her budget so that she could
afford the over $800 (same as cash) monthly payment. She actually had
the money in the bank to pay for the replacement unit but didn’t want
to use it because of the “no interest” offer of the A/C Company. After
some discussion she offered them less cash and saved over $200 off the
price of the new A/C. Before you make your next purchase, whether it is
a “want” or a “need”, check all of your options and see how you can get
a better deal plus save some of your hard earned cash. As you can see,
90 Days is NOT the same as cash.
Q:Toilet sweat?
Troy Williams, Pilot Point, TX
A: The reason a toilet will sweat is the outside air temperature is
lower than the temperature of the water in the tank. A perfect
example of condensation.
There could be a couple of problems of why the water temperature
in the tank is higher than room temperature. You could have a
circulating system on your house that has some type of crossover.
You could have a hot water pipe touching a cold water pipe under
the slab which is creating some type of crossover. You could have
hot water going into the tank. A few tests could be ran to determine
what problem you have and most likely an easy solution could be
resolved. This condensation most likely starts at the beginning
of summer and could last throughout summer. Rarely does this
problem exists during winter.
around chatting about nothing in particular
and they were kind enough to keep me in the
conversation and let me contribute. It was
almost like a right of passage into the Ladies
Lunch Club. Not only is Chicken Salad a
great lunch for the hot days in Texas but it
is versatile. Just a few small changes to the
basic ingredients can take you from the taste
of an elegant Country Club to a spicy Curry
adventure! Chicken salad is easy to prepare,
tastes delicious, looks amazing and not too
hard on the budget. Here are a few variations
Generations of
Award-winning Stallions
by Andrea Hikel
As we drove down the smooth road that wound its way around the
well-kept fences of Valor Farm, Ken Carson, General Manager,
explained each stage of the breeding and foaling process. He pointed
to each pen explaining which horses occupied the area, for how long
and what their next location would be and why. He educated me on the
sand content of the north Texas soil. It became clear why Pilot Point is
an outstanding place to raise horses. The 393 acres of rolling hills and
beautiful horses is breathtaking.
Clarence and Dorothy Scharbauers’ interest in Thoroughbreds
began with the 1959 Kentucky Derby, which Dorothy’s father, Fred
Turner, Jr., won with Tomy Lee. Dorothy, who passed away in 2005,
learned the industry from her father and won her first stakes race in
1953 at the age of twenty-two. Clarence is a former President of the
American Quarter Horse Association who comes from a family rich
in banking, oil and ranching history. The Midland natives set out to
have a Derby winner of their own and managed to do so when they
purchased a yearling who they named Alysheba. He won the 1987
Kentucky Derby, the title of 1988 Horse of the Year and retired as
the world’s richest Thoroughbred. With a love of Thoroughbred and
Quarter horses and an extensive background in breeding, training and
racing, the Scharbauers then established Valor Farm in 1991. Together,
they built the horse farm on knowledge, experience and love.
Some of the top stallions in the southwest have stood at Valor
Farm. Early Flyer was the #1 Southwest Freshman and Sophomore
Sire and the sire of a 2008 Texas Champion. Magic Cat has not only
produced outstanding crops of ten percent stakes winners and twelve
percent stakes performers, but also the 2008 Texas Champion and
Horse of the Year. Another stallion by the name of Wimbledon was the
winner of the $600,000 G2 Louisiana Derby.
Valor Farm is currently home to the 7th and 8th generation of
Among the nineteen miles of fencing you will find four
stallions and approximately 150 mares. About fifteen
employees work around the clock to ensure the farm is
Valor Farm is home to some of the top stallions
DRMC Employee Named 2009
DFW Hospital Council’s
Employee of the Year
I
David Bridges, EMT-P
t is with great pleasure that Denton Regional Medical Center
announces that an Emergency Department employee, David
Bridges, EMT-P, was named as the 2009 Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital
Council’s Employee of the Year.
This award is presented on an annual basis at the Dallas-Fort Worth
Hospital Council Education and Research Foundation Workforce
Center’s Employee of the Year Luncheon at the Arlington Convention
Center. The luncheon is about real “Lone Star Heroes” because it pays
tribute to hospital non-management employees – the nurses, technicians
and educators. This year’s speaker was Mrs. Anita Perry, First Lady of
Texas.
“The Employee of the Year Luncheon has become an annual
opportunity to honor the North Texas hospital workforce,” said Sally
Williams, Workforce Center director at the Foundation. “This event
offers employees a chance to be recognized for their dedicated work. It’s
a celebration of great employees making a difference in our hospitals.”
David Bridges, EMT-P has been employed as a Paramedic in the
Emergency Department since June of 2000. He has continued his
education while employed with Denton Regional Medical Center and
will soon complete degree requirements to become a Registered Nurse.
He is certainly one of the best examples of caring and compassion that
can be found at Denton Regional Medical Center.
A key team member of the Emergency Department, David can be
counted on to go above and beyond the standard expectations for his
position. David is admired and respected by everyone working in the
Emergency Department because they all know that David will complete
any task that is asked of him. He is able to establish a trustful rapport
with his patients and demonstrates high moral and ethical convictions
in his work.
Aside from his daily responsibilities as a Paramedic, David has
developed a successful Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT).
His responsibilities with the HERT include overseeing a twelve member
team, communicating hospital responsibilities during an emergency
response, and maintaining a continual state of emergency response
readiness for the hospital.
David also volunteers his time to the community. He is actively
involved with the Texas-4 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT),
which travels across the United States to provide life saving care after
natural disasters. During 2008 alone, David and the Texas-4 DMAT
team were deployed to provide medical care for victims of Hurricane
34 www.380Guide.com
Dolly, Hurricane Gustav, and Hurricane Ike. Hurricane’s Gustav and Ike
required David and his team members to be deployed for over a month
at a time, during which time they were responsible for many different
assignments – from receiving patients at DFW International Airport, to
setting up a makeshift emergency room on the Rice University campus
and establishing a patient care clinic in the parking lot of a shopping
mall in Galveston. During these deployments, David, along with other
members of the medical staff, treated patients who had been affected by
the disasters, many of whom had lost everything they owned and relied
on these makeshift clinics for medical care.
David is also involved with emergency planning on a state and local
level. He is currently part of a group developing a Medical Task Force
for the State of Texas which would be responsible to respond to local and
state disasters. The group’s first step in establishing the Medical Task
Force is to provide education to the nineteen counties in the North Texas
region on how to organize, implement, and operate a mobile medical
unit. David has assumed the leadership role in this first step by creating
and developing the curriculum for the education events. He is working
to develop a training manual and presentation to be able to train the
counties in the North Texas region over a two-day seminar. David has
spent many hours completing research and speaking with state and local
agencies in addition to writing the material so that the other members of
the group will be ready to begin educating the region by April 2009.
David acts an instructor for North Central Texas College in
the Emergency Medical Services department. He teaches EMT and
Paramedic students, instilling them with the theory and hands-on
skills necessary for them pursue their careers and impact the healthcare
industry by saving lives. David also teaches the Medical Emergencies
course at North Central Texas College, a course that is described as a
course most instructors “dread” teaching because of the complexity
of the material. David’s passion for emergency response management
and his active involvement in emergency planning at the hospital and
throughout the country have allowed him to successfully teach the
material to his students. David’s students appreciate the knowledge he
provides to them and because of his teaching methodology combined
with his vast knowledge and experience, are able to complete his classes
with success.
In May of 2008, David volunteered to participate in the HCA/
Habitat for Humanity Build project in New Orleans, Louisiana. David
was chosen to represent Denton Regional Medical Center in this project
because of the many hours he has volunteered to provide disaster
assistance through his participation in the Texas-4 DMAT and because
of his dedication to emergency management in his local and state
community. This project was a five-day build in the Ninth Ward of New
Orleans, one of the areas hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, to
finish and dedicate 25 homes and start the construction of another 25
homes.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to come together with individuals in
order to accomplish something that initially seemed impossible. It was a
good feeling to know that so many people were willing to put aside their
lives for a week to help other people who had lost so much. Working
with complete strangers, who hold different jobs within the HCA
Corporation, building new friendships while building this house, and
feeling as though I was a part of a larger family is something that I will
truly never forget. Looking back, I will always remember meeting and
forming friendships with individuals from across the U.S. and Canada
who also participated in the project.” David Bridges, EMT-P
Denton Regional Medical Center is very fortunate to have such
compassionate employees. David Bridges has become an inspiration to
those around him. His caring attitude has touched the lives of so many in
our hospital and community and has extended beyond the borders of our
state. David does not do any of these deeds or acts of volunteerism to seek
praise or recognition; he does these acts of kindness very humbly and out
of a sincere wish to help his fellow man. David is truly an example of the
caring culture of our hospital and organization.
