World Bank lends for private
hydro in Turkey
Bank noted Turkey’s small hydropower
potential is estimated at 14.1
terawatt-hours, little of which has
been developed. The bank said preliminary
studies of 26 basins identify
344 hydro sites of under 30 MW, totaling
3,400 MW. In addition, it said
topographical analysis indicates
there might be another 5,000 MW of
small hydro potential. A World Bank
project appraisal document lists 27
small hydro projects that might be
eligible for assistance under the program
