A new binder system <strong>for</strong><br />

Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom is a newly <strong>en</strong>gineered binder<br />
system designed by Kerneos <strong>for</strong> a wide range<br />
of low cem<strong>en</strong>t castables.<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom addresses the demand <strong>for</strong> high<br />
per<strong>for</strong>mance monolithics, which are nowadays<br />

As a mineral buffer, Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom greatly<br />
facilitates the placing of castables allowing the<br />
creation of more stable systems that are less<br />
s<strong>en</strong>sitive to fume silica lot variation. At the same<br />
time, other properties like setting time and<br />
hard<strong>en</strong>ing remain consist<strong>en</strong>t.<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom based systems demonstrate<br />
more robustness towards changes in ambi<strong>en</strong>t<br />
temperature. This property <strong>en</strong>ables to manage<br />
smoothly the seasonal transitions common in<br />
many regions (5 to 35°C).<br />

Second, SIMPLICITY<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom is a sophisticated <strong>for</strong>mulation<br />
<strong>en</strong>gine with one goal: to make developm<strong>en</strong>t<br />
work easier!<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom behaves well with traditional<br />
admixtures and can simplify many <strong>for</strong>mulations,<br />
oft<strong>en</strong> requiring the use of fewer admixtures. It is<br />
well known that low dosage can be chall<strong>en</strong>ging<br />
to control effectively during production or on<br />
job site. Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom is particularly suited to<br />
reduce such requirem<strong>en</strong>ts.<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom is designed to exploit a single<br />
retarder logic, allowing the creation of systems<br />
conv<strong>en</strong>i<strong>en</strong>t to adjust wh<strong>en</strong> the temperature<br />
varies. This is a significant improvem<strong>en</strong>t<br />
compared to the duo retarder / accelerator<br />
approach frequ<strong>en</strong>tly used, which can be<br />
awkward to deal with.<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom reaches a proper flowability<br />
with low water addition and has be<strong>en</strong> tested<br />
successfully with several kinds of mixers.<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom is, however, <strong>for</strong>giving if excess<br />
of water is added and will t<strong>en</strong>d to keep a similar<br />
level of per<strong>for</strong>mance in such circumstances.<br />

PERFORMANCE<br />
Despite the focus on application and<br />
<strong>for</strong>mulation ease, Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom systems still<br />
meet the needs of the most demanding ULCC<br />
and LCC d<strong>en</strong>se castables.<br />
In term of gre<strong>en</strong> properties, Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom<br />
shows good working time and rapid structure<br />
developm<strong>en</strong>t, synonymous with high initial<br />
str<strong>en</strong>gth.<br />
In term of high temperature properties,<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom provides “best in class” hot<br />
mechanical str<strong>en</strong>gths and abrasion resistance.<br />
Refractoriness under load is also better than<br />
traditional systems and improved perman<strong>en</strong>t<br />
linear change is another feature of the product.<br />
Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom will give its best per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />
wh<strong>en</strong> new castables are designed from first<br />
principals and not wh<strong>en</strong> the product is just used to<br />
replace one product by the new product. A close<br />
cooperation with Kerneos is advised allowing<br />
access to the wide range of developm<strong>en</strong>t testing<br />
conducted with many widely available raw<br />
materials that have be<strong>en</strong> studied during the<br />
developm<strong>en</strong>t of Secar X<strong>en</strong>iom.<br />
For many years, the Secar ® range has be<strong>en</strong><br />
Kerneos’ commitm<strong>en</strong>t to quality stability, and<br />
wide availability supported by a high level<br />
dialogue allowing customers to meet their <strong>en</strong>duser<br />
