for fieldtrips, special equipment for the classrooms, fun activities like dances, and much more. We need help counting
laps and cheering on the kids. Extra pledge sheets and flyers are in the Front Office. Cool prizes will be
awarded also! Thank you to those who filled out the volunteer check list and we will be in touch. We look forward
100% Club and Self Managers—Encourage your kids to achieve these goals!
Members of this club have to have all classroom work completed and turned in on time during a trimester. Privileges
include: one minute early to lunch any day, sit wherever they want within river during assemblies, have a
party each trimester and end of the year, and they are able to visit other homerooms in the morning.
Self Managers have the same requirements in addition to having no tardies or referrals during the trimester. Their
privileges include the above plus they can use their 100% card as a bathroom pass and/or media center pass, and
they have 5 homework passes.
Go T.I.G.E.R.S.!
This year at Oaklea, staff and students are working together to have the best year yet. Each classroom has adopted
four general rules:
1. Follow directions immediately. 2. Work during all work times. 3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 4.
Arrive on time with all materials (pen, pencil, notebook, textbook, paper).
Visitors to Oaklea will also notice "Voice Levels" signs posted in areas. These are to indicate the appropriate voice
level for general-use areas such as the Media Center and the Cafeteria. Students are expected to follow the four
classroom rules in all areas plus use the appropriate voice level at all times. Together we can work towards a more
positive learning environment.
On September 28th, Oaklea held a school wide assembly to decide our T.I.G.E.R.S.' Roar. Each Team
class created a chant/song plus some sort of dance movement to promote the T.I.G.E.R.S.' Roar which
stands for Teamwork, Integrity, Getting ready for life, Effort and Excellence, Respect and Responsibility,
and Success comes after hard work. Guest judges included Jill Case, Mark Chase/ JCPD Chief
of Police, Jacques Gerdes/school board member, Holly Menino/ KEZI Morning Show co-anchor, and
Superintendent Kathleen Rodden-Nord.
In addition to the T.I.G.E.R.S.' Roar, all staff members will be rewarding students on a daily basis who display any
of the Roar's traits with Tiger Stripes. "Tiger Stripes" are a new currency at Oaklea that can purchase such items as a
Homework and Front of the Lunch Line pass plus will be redeemable at school wide events such as a Winter Giving
Store and Year-End Silent Auction. If you or your company would like to donate items for students to purchase with
their Tiger Stripes at either event, please contact our Counselor/Dean of Students, Lindsay Nelson at 998-3381.
Cell Phone Use
As you read through your student’s Agenda Book ,
you will notice on page 10 that the use of cell
phones or other electronic devices during school
hours (8:00-2:55) is not permitted. These devices
need to be turned off during the school day and
kept in lockers. Consequences are also listed.
They may be used outside of the building before
8:00 and after 2:55. In addition, taking
someone else’s picture with a cell phone
is not permitted for safety and privacy reasons.
NATIVES Program
activities to eligible students such as tutoring, culture
completed Student Eligibility Certification (506) form
on file with the Program office, self-certifying Native
heritage is all that is required. Contact the Alan
Merrill, NATIVES Program at 461-8228 for eligibility
forms.
