Photovoltaics 1/2/3<br />

Competency-based courses designed <strong>for</strong> alternative and<br />

renewable energy technology. It provides students with<br />

project-based experiences in photovoltaic system<br />

selection, and mechanical design adaptation. Technical<br />

instruction includes an introduction and reviews <strong>of</strong><br />

workplace safety policies and procedures, resource<br />

management, trade mathematics, and employability<br />

skills. Emphasis is placed on PV system hardware and<br />

component evaluation, site assessment techniques <strong>for</strong><br />

finding suitable location <strong>for</strong> PV systems,<br />

sizing/costing/selection <strong>of</strong> PV systems based on site<br />

assessment results, and PV system mechanical design<br />

criteria and adaptations. The competencies in this course<br />

are aligned with the CA High School Academic Content<br />

Standards and the Cali<strong>for</strong>nia Career Technical<br />

Education Model Curriculum Standards.<br />

Photovoltaic Systems (PV-2)<br />

Prerequisites: Intro to PV (PV-1), OSHA 10 and out<br />

<strong>of</strong> class study required.<br />

Photovolataic Systems (PV-2) is a comprehensive 70<br />

hour learner focused hands-on course <strong>of</strong> instruction and<br />

includes: PV safety, PV history, markets & applications,<br />

solar energy fundamentals, system components, site<br />

evaluation, PV system sizing principles, basic system<br />

design, mechanical attachments & integration, electrical<br />

integration, per<strong>for</strong>mance analysis, maintenance &<br />

troubleshooting. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> this course<br />

will qualify participants to take the NABCEP PV Entry<br />

Level Exam.<br />
