Intro to PV Design & Installation: Review <strong>of</strong> PV<br />

history and industry needs. Course follows ATP PV<br />

Systems text supplemented with FSEC course material,<br />

and the SEI and Messenger/Ventre PV Systems<br />

textbooks. Emphasis on NEC & OSHA safety plus the<br />

ASCE 7-05 wind loading requirements. Targeted to<br />

tradespeople, inspectors & others interested in the<br />

details <strong>of</strong> installation requirements. Course is 32 hours<br />

<strong>of</strong> classroom over a 4 week period, plus an 8 hour<br />

hands-on laboratory installing a bimodal PV system.<br />

With over 25 years <strong>of</strong> experience, Solar Source<br />

developed a training arm to help meet the needs <strong>of</strong> the<br />

growing solar industry. As a result, Solar Source<br />

Institute (SSI) was established. Since its inception, SSI<br />

has trained approximately 500 electricians, plumbers,<br />

ro<strong>of</strong>ers, architects, building inspectors, technical<br />

trainers, and other construction-related workers. SSI<br />

training teaches not only fundamentals and installation,<br />

but also covers permitting, sales & marketing, financial<br />

incentives, and more to assure the students can manage<br />

jobs from start to finish.<br />

SSI is licensed by the Dept. <strong>of</strong> Education and is a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> the Florida Association <strong>of</strong> Post-Secondary<br />

Schools and Colleges. SSI courses are <strong>approved</strong> <strong>for</strong><br />

continuing education credits by the Florida Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> Business and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Regulation <strong>for</strong> both the<br />

Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) and the<br />

Electrical Contractors Licensing Board (ECLB). SSI is<br />

partnered with several State colleges in Florida and<br />

beyond to <strong>of</strong>fer consistent quality training opportunities<br />

in multiple locations.<br />

Introduction to Photovoltaics<br />

This course introduces students to the theory <strong>of</strong><br />

operation <strong>of</strong> photovoltaic systems including their<br />

application to homes and small commercial buildings,<br />

site selection/survey, system components, reliability and<br />

maintainability requirements <strong>of</strong> systems.<br />

Advanced Photovoltaics<br />

This course is a continuation <strong>of</strong> Introduction to<br />

Photovoltaics and covers designing and building<br />

residential systems including system sizing, mechanical<br />

installation, and electrical hookup <strong>of</strong> grid tied/utility<br />

interactive and stand alone systems.<br />
