Solar Panel Design and Installation Course:<br />

Students taking this course will learn up-to-date<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation in regards to solar panel design and<br />

installation; and potential tax rebates <strong>of</strong>fered at the state<br />

and federal <strong>level</strong>. The course is taught by industry<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals that bring actual field and business<br />

knowledge to the learning experience. The course<br />

utilizes the Solar Energy International text,<br />

Photovoltaics: Design and Installation Manual;<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation from the Florida Solar Energy Center; and<br />

follows the learning objectives <strong>for</strong> the NABCEP Entry<br />

Level Certificate Program. Class time is 45 hours which<br />

is broken up into two settings: classroom and hands-on<br />

lab. During lab time, students will do actual installation<br />

<strong>of</strong> various solar panel systems in a state <strong>of</strong> the art<br />

training facility. Students who successfully complete all<br />

course hours will be <strong>of</strong>fered the NABCEP Entry Level<br />

Exam as a part <strong>of</strong> the course. Textbooks are included.<br />

Solar Photovoltaic 40 hr Entry Level<br />

This instructor led 40 hour course is designed to<br />

introduce the elements <strong>of</strong> a properly designed and<br />

installed solar PV system, to prepare individuals <strong>for</strong> an<br />

<strong>entry</strong> <strong>level</strong> position with a solar PV company, and to<br />

prepare individuals to take the NABCEP Entry Level<br />

Exam. This course will closely follow the NABCEP PV<br />

Entry Level learning objectives to include PV markets &<br />

Applications, Safety Basics, Electrical Basic, Solar<br />

Energy Fundamentals, PV Module Fundamentals,<br />

System Components, PV System Sizing Principles, PV<br />

System Electrical Design, PV System Mechanical<br />

Design, Per<strong>for</strong>mance Analysis and Troubleshooting.<br />

Photovoltaic Power Systems – Design, Installation &<br />

Maintenance:<br />

The course consists <strong>of</strong> 60 contact hours and is a<br />

combination <strong>of</strong> lecture and classroom plus hands-on<br />

installation <strong>of</strong> a system installed on a simulated ro<strong>of</strong> in<br />

the training facility then interconnected to a mock<br />

service. Students will actually install the system and tie<br />

it into the service equipment provided <strong>for</strong> utility<br />

provided power. Grid-tied systems shall be compared to<br />

stand-alone systems with a strong focus on service<br />

interconnection.<br />
