PARK CAMPUS The recovery of 6400 Press Drive continued in a beautiful fashion . . . literally. The Park Campus underwent a significant facelift during the 2009- 2010 academic year. The buildings were transformed from a mixed bag of colors to a uniform light brown after being pressure washed. The Multipurpose Building gets a facelift with the addition of an outdoor building directory and new plant life. Photo by Eddie Francis Trees and shrubberies also adorn the campus after a beautification project called the Clean Campus Project took place. Blue and gold outdoor directories were also added outside of each building along with campus ―street signs‖. As FY2009-2010 came to a close, a project to replace pipes and repave walkways began, as well. LAKE CAMPUS Growth continued on the Lake Campus as a new address was added to the SUNO directory of properties. Student & Faculty Housing provided a new University address of 7000 Press Drive when the facility opened Spring 2010. As a part of the Clean Campus Project, a green play area was added in front of the residential facility. Construction continued at 6801 Press Drive, however. As the Information Technology Center continued to take shape, construction began on the College of Business & Public Administration building. The “building boom” took flight on the Lake Campus with the groundbreaking for the Information Technology Center (upper left) in July of 2009 and the ribbon cutting for the Student & Faculty Housing complex (left) in February of 2010. ITC photo by Ray Bonnee and ribbon cutting photo by Eddie Francis FUNDRAISING A major fundraising effort which continued to contribute to facility development was for the Student Life Center, which has collected more than $50,000. Southern University at New Orleans also celebrated the 50 th Anniversary of its opening on Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Hilton Riverside with performances by Stephanie Jordan and BRW at BASH IV. The event was co-chaired by University alumni Garland and Yvonne Green and Keith McKendall. The BASH started in 2004 as a signature fundraising event named for SUNO’s Chancellor Emeritus and first Chancellor, Dr. Emmett W. Bashful, who was the event’s first honoree. In 2005 the event honored the University’s first dean of its highly regarded School of Social Work, Millie McClelland Charles.
