Transforming Healthcare
A Black Country hospital is working closely with patients and local residents to
shape the future of healthcare services for the next generation.
Next month (September 2009), staff at New Cross Hospital in Wednesfield,
Wolverhampton, are asking local people to join them and celebrate the part
that patients, as healthcare consumers, play in developing hospital services.
“We’ve a well-established research and development directorate,” explains
Yvonne Hague, directorate manager, The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals
NHS Trust. “In September we’re celebrating the contributions made by
patients, carers and other people from across the city. This will help shape our
healthcare services for future generations.
“For most people, research and innovation are not the first things that they
consider when they think of the NHS. But research and innovation are the
basis of modernising patient care, treatment and, through that, the quality of
life within the wider community.”
Yvonne says that the New Cross research and development team are
committed to delivering excellent healthcare services. She adds that it is
important for the hospital to engage and assist patients and carers because
they stimulate and drive forward research and innovation.
“At the event next month,” says Yvonne, “people will learn about the research
that we’re working on at present, and how our previous work has influenced
change. We’d also like to talk to people about joining our patient advisory
board.”
Members of the public, and representatives of local healthcare support
groups, are invited to meet health service managers at a reception at the
Wolverhampton Medical Institute, New Cross Hospital, at 6.00 pm on
Wednesday 16 September 2009.
