A Message from the School Council
Knox Grammar School Council continued under the leadership of Chairman Rob Wannan. At the
AGM in May 2009 a new Deputy Chairman and Secretary were elected to office and Council
farewelled some long serving Council members and welcomed the newly elected members to their
first meeting.
There were nine meetings of the whole School Council in 2009 together with regular Property,
Boarding, and Finance and Audit sub-committee meetings. At Council’s September 2009 meeting
Property and Boarding Committee meetings were suspended for the time being. Property and
Boarding reports now from part of the Headmaster’s Report to Council.
All governance requirements in relation to statutory, legal, finance and audit, education, and the
environment were completed.
2009 has been a year in which we have been laying new foundations for an even more dynamic and
successful Knox Grammar School, including the commencement of three significant building
projects:
a) The Knox Boarding Centre – 21 st century residential accommodation and care for 150
boarders and boarding staff.
b) A new school hall with funding assistance from the Commonwealth Government.
c) The construction of a 50m pool and learn to swim pool.
These are clear statements of the health and intent of the School.
It is a pleasure for the School Council to be part of, and preside over, this new period of
establishment and growth.
The School Council plan to continue to work towards the upgrading and expansion of the school’s
teaching facilities in 2010 and beyond as a matter of priority.
Knox is a vibrant, exciting and purposeful place and, on behalf of the School Council, I would like
to congratulate the students, staff and entire Knox Community on their achievements in 2009.
