Relationships with business
Aston and Warwick Universities are leading on a new Enterprise
Research Centre that will help develop understanding of the
factors affecting business investment, performance and growth.
The new £2.9 million centre will become a national and
international focal point for research, knowledge and expertise
on small and medium-sized businesses.
Relationships with business through KTP programmes
The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme is a
Technology Strategy Board initiative which aims to deliver
transformational change through innovation; by improving the
competitiveness, productivity and performance of UK businesses,
increasing the commercial relevance of UK academic research
and teaching, and enhancing the personal skills and commercial
awareness of recently qualified people entering the workplace.
Aston University is working in partnership with companies on
13 Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and has completed over
100 since their creation. Aston is currently one of the top 10
Universities most actively involved in KTPs in the UK.
For example, Aston Business School are working on a KTP with
award winning local law firm, Higgs & Sons. This partnership will
implement an innovative cultural change programme that will
impact on sector performance by better understanding client
needs, re-examining pricing strategy and challenging operational
processes.
Academics in the School of Life & Health Science are working
on a KTP with the Macular Society, a UK charity for macular
conditions, to educate people about the impact of nutrition in
Age Related Macular degeneration (AMD). 513,000 people in the
UK are currently affected by late stage AMD and this figure is
expected to double by 2050.
