Programme overview<br />
The Industrial Enterprise Management programme is designed for<br />
those who have a first degree in a technical discipline and aspire to<br />
set up their own businesses in the engineering or technical sector.<br />
The programme addresses the full range of management knowledge<br />
and skills needed to set up a successful business. By being<br />
accredited by the Chartered Management Institute, the programme is<br />
shown to meet the rigorous demands of a high quality management<br />
education that is recognised across the globe.<br />
Outline of programme<br />
Module guide<br />
The programme requires you to undertake 11 taught modules and to<br />
complete a Major Project with a dissertation of approximately 15,000<br />
words. Each taught module involves up to 22 teaching hours including<br />
tutorials, seminars and project classes. The programme runs from<br />
October to September with examination weeks in December and<br />
March/April. The project occupies the final six months.<br />

Jane’s background is in Management Education; her PhD is<br />
from <strong>Aston</strong> Business School. She has several years’ experience<br />
working in the UK Public Sector. Her research interests focus on<br />
Engineering Education, Education Policy and the Management of<br />

Programme overview<br />
The programme is designed for students with a prior degree in<br />
computing who wish to develop their career further into Project<br />
Management. Graduates will be equipped with advanced problemsolving<br />
skills necessary for planning, monitoring and controlling<br />
software projects. Students will develop a detailed understanding<br />
of the project management issues involved in creating software<br />
systems and how they can be addressed from the viewpoint of the<br />
organisation, the software developers and the end-users. Practical<br />
experience of an IT project to design and implement a substantial<br />
IT project plan, or analyse a business environment and design an<br />
appropriate IT strategy is provided through the Major Project.<br />

The MSc requires you to study seven taught modules and to complete a<br />
Major Project resulting in a dissertation of approximately 15,000 words:<br />

The programme runs from October to September with examinations<br />
held in December and March/April. The Major Project must be<br />
completed by the end of September. The taught part contributes 100<br />
credits and the Major Project accounts for 80 credits, totalling the 180<br />
credits required for successful completion of the MSc programme.<br />
There is an option to study for a <strong>Postgraduate</strong> Diploma, based on<br />
the same taught modules as the MSc plus a smaller Diploma Project<br />
accounting for 20 credits, to be completed by June.<br />

Dr. Aniko Ekart<br />
Aniko teaches Software Lifecycle and Design and Professional Skills<br />
in Computing. She is part of the ADVANCE project funded by the<br />
European Commission, which aims to develop a computer system to<br />
improve goods delivery across large-scale European transport networks.<br />
Her research interests include: data mining, machine learning, genetic<br />
programming theory and applications, evolutionary computation.<br />
