W
ith the Smith & Nephew Unipolar
System, joint restoration is achieved with
surgical flexibility that benefits both the
surgeon and the patient.
The system uses two components: a taper
sleeve and a solid cobalt chromium head.
This design simplifies implantation and
eliminates concerns with polyethylene
wear debris which may be present in
other unipolar designs.
Unipolar components come in a full range
of sizes, from 40 to 55 mm in 1 mm increments,
and 57, 59, and 61 mm. Taper
sleeves are used to adjust the neck length
of the unipolar head. Five neck length
options are available to fit Smith & Nephew
12/14 taper femoral components and four
neck length options are available to fit
large taper femoral components.

Acetabular Measurement
Measure excised femoral head with
ID/OD gauge or calipers. Acetabular
measurement can be performed
with a trial head and trial handle.

Broach and
Implant Trialing
Follow the surgical technique
for the specific femoral component
to be used. Neck length trialing
can be accomplished by using
trial Unipolar sleeves and trial
Unipolar heads. Trialing can
be performed off either the
broach or the implant.

Implant Assembly
1. Clean and dry the stem taper.
2. Place the appropriate length
taper sleeve onto the stem
taper.
3. Impact the sleeve with the
femoral head impactor and
mallet.
4. Clean and dry the taper sleeve
and place the appropriate size
Unipolar head onto the sleeve.
5. Impact with the femoral head
impactor and mallet.
