Evidence-based pressure ulcer risk assessment and<br />
implementation in clinical practice<br />
The workshop will incorporate a short PowerPoint presentation to summarise the evidence<br />
base of risk assessment; the development of a new evidence-based Risk Assessment<br />
Framework - PURPOSE T and active monitoring model of care incorporating primary and<br />
secondary Pressure Ulcer Prevention Pathways (PUPPs) developed as <strong>part</strong> of the NIHR<br />
PURPOSE <strong>Programme</strong> of research; and associated clinical implementation experience.<br />
Using realistic community and acute vignette case studies, delegates will then have the<br />
opportunity to practice using PURPOSE T and PUPPs. Reflection and feedback will be<br />
requested to support implementation locally and internationally.<br />
Learning Objectives:<br />
1. Update understanding of key pressure ulcer risk factors and risk assessment practice.<br />
2. Be confident using PURPOSE T and PUPP’s with vignettes.<br />
3. Assess whether their current risk assessment practice is in line with the evidence base.<br />
4. Consider issues affecting the implementation of PURPOSE T and PUPPs in clinical<br />
practice.<br />

Skincare of patients with a chronic wound<br />
This session will provide an overview of common skin problems of the wound edge and<br />
the surrounding skin. Strategies for the prevention of wound-associated skin problems, as<br />
well as some treatments, will be described. The session focus will lie in the practical<br />
aspects of choosing a skin-care regimen for the different states of periwound skin.<br />
Different galenic formulations of skin care products will be presented and tested during<br />
the workshop.<br />
Improve mobility and independence with high quality foot care<br />
– Soft-cast heel protectors<br />
The workshop will:<br />
• Demonstrate the application of soft-cast heel protectors<br />
• Enable clinicians to gain hands-on experience with the devices<br />
• Ask experienced practitioners questions about the use of heel casts<br />
• Understand the advantages and disadvantages of soft-heel casting<br />
• Gain wider choices in the management of offloading heels<br />
• Have access to written information regarding soft-cast heel protectors for patients and<br />
carers<br />
