About EFORT:<br />
The European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology<br />
(EFORT) is the platform organisation linking Europe‘s national orthopaedic associations.<br />
Its aims reflect the will of all the <strong>part</strong>icipating associations to promote the exchange of<br />
scientific knowledge and experience in the field of prevention and both the conservative<br />
and surgical treatment of diseases and injuries concerning the musculo-skeletal system.<br />
To this end, <strong>part</strong>icular emphasis is placed upon activities focusing on education and<br />
research.<br />
EFORT was established by the national associations for orthopaedics and traumatology<br />
from 20 European countries. The Federation was founded in Marentino, Italy, in 1991,<br />
and today has 45 national member societies from 42 member countries, as well as nine<br />
associate scientific members.<br />
EFORT today also promotes collaboration with the European Specialty Societies and has<br />
established close links to International Societies.<br />
In terms of its legal structure, EFORT was established as a non-profit organisation and all<br />
funds are used exclusively in the pursuit of the Federation‘s aims.<br />

The session will cover the following topics:<br />
• Reconstructive surgery: Wound management after total knee arthroplasty. How to save<br />
the prosthesis.<br />
• Trauma: Type of flaps and time management in severe open fractures of the lower<br />
limb with soft tissue defects.<br />
• Limits of VAC therapy in orthopaedics<br />

Leg Ulcer Forum (LUF)<br />
About LUF:<br />
The aims of the Leg Ulcer Forum are:<br />
• To promote a local network of resources for the benefit of patients suffering from an<br />
ongoing leg ulcer or wound management problem, through the establishment of<br />
specialist services supported by appropriately qualified staff – some of who may be<br />
termed clinical nurse specialists/advanced practitioners.<br />
• To provide a forum to advance the education of nurses and other healthcare professionals<br />
involved in the treatment of persons with leg ulcers and related conditions,<br />
including wounds, through discussion, debate, and dissemination of relevant research<br />
findings.<br />
• Development of new branches/affiliations of the Leg Ulcer Forum within the UK.<br />
• To liaise with similar and appropriate organisations in other countries in order to<br />
facilitate appropriate international associations.<br />
