to make the league fun again, is to take advantage of the friendships the Junior League has to offer.”
How do we make this happen? A couple of ways:
First, I think we are on the right track with our fundraising and community projects. We have some great NEW things in the hopper for 2011-2012.
Rummage on the River, also known as “Rummage,” is a terrific Community Fundraiser; you will really get to bond with other members and the community
in an exciting and different way. Touch-a-Truck is going to be amazing - watching a new project develop from the ground up and being a part of it should
be nothing- if not FUN! Continuing our focus work on Women’s Reproductive Cancers is going to educate and enlighten us. You have voted for these
projects- that’s the first step.
Secondly, to steal Beth’s Dogette’s theme for the 2009-2010 league year, ENGAGE. If you are having a tough day, go to a Girls of Excellence event
or offer to work a Community Outreach event at RCC, your problems will go right out the window.
The last way to make the league fun, is to take advantage of the friendships the Junior League has to offer. I have made most of my close friends
from the League and have some of my best memories working on shifts and committees. So make a new friend - maybe come to the GMM at 6, instead
of right before the meeting starts - chat, yuck it up, and make the most of this time. It goes by very quickly.
I’m going to try to be “perfect” for each of you, but I know I will probably fall far from the mark. But the way I can meet all the goals I have set for
myself, is to only make ONE GOAL that will encompass everything else; HAVE FUN AND TRY TO MAKE THIS YEAR FUN FOR OTHERS! I encourage
each of you to do the same.
So…When I come up on this stage 360+ days from now - I am going to ask each of you one question - Did you have fun? I empower all of you to
make sure you and your fellow members can say yes. If we can accomplish that, everything else will not be perfect, but pretty great!
I appreciate that you have entrusted me with the “stewardship” of the organization. Hey! I finally got to use it!
President’s
Reflections
Mandy Eberwine
Who knew a year could pass by
in the blink of an eye?! The night
before our annual dinner, I ran into a
Past-President at the gym and she immediately pointed out
to me how close I was to the end of this journey... and how
close I was to becoming a member of the inspiring and elite
group of ladies known as the Past-Presidents of the Junior
League of Hampton Roads. I can only imagine each of them
also found themselves wondering how a year could pass
by so quickly. It truly has been a blur of agendas, emails,
planning, emails, meetings, emails, phone calls and emails...
but I wouldn’t change a minute of it!
A year ago I challenged each of you to determine your
own personal measures of success for the year. I know you
heard me, because as I look at our members, I see a very
successful group of ladies! I hope you realize how much
