<strong>Keio</strong> <strong>University</strong> would like to welcome 3 students from the member universities to this program as a pilot<br />

case to open existing summer program and to further promote student mobility among APRU universities,<br />

The Human Systems in the Pacific Northwest Bioregion Program for <strong>Keio</strong> <strong>University</strong> students <strong>at</strong> the<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Washington</strong> (UW) has been cre<strong>at</strong>ed through collabor<strong>at</strong>ion between the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Washington</strong> (UW) Program on the Environment (PoE) and Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Outreach Programs (IOP) in<br />

consult<strong>at</strong>ion with <strong>Keio</strong> <strong>University</strong>. It is an intensive three-week course on environmentology designed<br />

to introduce students from a wide range <strong>of</strong> academic and pr<strong>of</strong>essional interests to issues and challenges<br />

encountered in an urbanizing area with plentiful n<strong>at</strong>ural resources. The program includes lectures,<br />

workshops, discussion, as well as a visit to the UW Friday Harbour Lab Research Facilities on the San<br />

Juan Islands for seminars and hands-on experiences.<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Washington</strong> campus and its <strong>of</strong>f-campus facilities<br />

Accommod<strong>at</strong>ion (except two trips): <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Washington</strong> dormitory, double occupancy<br />

Period <strong>of</strong> the Program: August 20, 2005 -- September 10, 2005<br />

Breakdown<br />

1) Program fee $2,800<br />

2) Costs for Housing and Meals $458.85<br />

**The Housing and Meals Costs include all the accommod<strong>at</strong>ion and $15 per day meal card <strong>at</strong> the<br />

UW campus, as well as the costs for the two short trips.<br />

**Intern<strong>at</strong>ional airfare and travel insurance cost are not included in the above figure.<br />

2. Selection, Notific<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> Acceptance<br />

Screening will be conducted <strong>at</strong> <strong>Keio</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Screening result will be sent to all the applicants by June<br />

17 th (Fri).<br />

3. Payment, Travel arrangement, etc.<br />

(1)Payment<br />

Please pay the total program fee <strong>of</strong> $3258.85 by August 15 th (Mon). You need to wire the total amount<br />

to the account <strong>of</strong> UW individually. The account number will be notified to the successful candid<strong>at</strong>es.<br />

Please note th<strong>at</strong> you have to pay the cancell<strong>at</strong>ion fee if you cancel the particip<strong>at</strong>ion after June 24th.<br />

(2) Pledge Card<br />

You need to send the pledge card to us. The form will be sent to the successful candid<strong>at</strong>es.<br />

(3) Air ticket<br />

Please purchase your air ticket to Se<strong>at</strong>tle on your own.<br />

(4) Travel Insurance<br />

All the participants are required to take out relevant travel insurance th<strong>at</strong> provides coverage throughout<br />

the program period.<br />

(5) Visa applic<strong>at</strong>ion (if applicable)<br />

If you are from a country required to obtain visa to enter the U.S.A., please consult the <strong>Keio</strong> <strong>Summer</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> Office.<br />

4. Pre-departure Study<br />

We will send you the list <strong>of</strong> recommended readings or the video <strong>of</strong> the pre-departure sessions held <strong>at</strong><br />

<strong>Keio</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus.<br />

5. Program start<br />

You need to come and join the <strong>Keio</strong> group <strong>at</strong> the Tacoma Airport, Se<strong>at</strong>tle on August 20th. The detail will be<br />

noticed to the successful candid<strong>at</strong>e<br />
