1.2 THE REPORT<br />
The follow<strong>in</strong>g report presents the results of the research undertaken on behalf of CPAPC to<br />
further the relationship between Canadian First Peoples and the philanthropic community. The<br />
report beg<strong>in</strong>s by discuss<strong>in</strong>g the methodology used <strong>for</strong> data collection. We then contextualize<br />
the issues, provid<strong>in</strong>g statistics that outl<strong>in</strong>e some of the conditions <strong>for</strong> <strong>Aborig<strong>in</strong>al</strong> Peoples. This<br />
section is followed by analysis and summary of the f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs, a case study, conclusions and<br />
recommendations.<br />
2.0 Methodology<br />
This chapter outl<strong>in</strong>es the methodology used to conduct the research and the rationale <strong>for</strong><br />
select<strong>in</strong>g specific parameters and challenges. To address the project objectives, multiple<br />
l<strong>in</strong>es of evidence were employed, enabl<strong>in</strong>g us to answer questions by triangulat<strong>in</strong>g multiple<br />
perspectives and sources of <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation.<br />
There are seven core components of the research:<br />
1. Research design;<br />
2. Literature review;<br />
3. Review of any exist<strong>in</strong>g documents from member organizations;<br />
4. Key <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mant <strong>in</strong>terviews;<br />
5. A survey of philanthropic organizations undertaken by CPAPC;<br />
6. A comprehensive case study; and,<br />
7. Integrated analysis and report<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Each of the components is described <strong>in</strong> the report. The results of components 2 through<br />
5, with analysis and report<strong>in</strong>g, are presented <strong>in</strong> Chapter 3. The case study is presented<br />
<strong>in</strong> Chapter 4. Conclusions and recommendations from the entire report are presented <strong>in</strong><br />
Chapters 5 and 6.<br />
