OFFICIAL APPOINTMENTS
Archbishop Thomas Wenski has made the following
appointments:
• Rev. Bongmoon Lee, Chaplain to the Korean
Apostolate, effective September 3, 2010.
• Rev. John Fink, Spiritual Director to the English
Charismatic Renewal Movement of the
Archdiocese of Miami, effective May 31, 2011.
• Very Rev. Chanel Jeanty, interim Vicar General, in
addition to his other assignments, effective June
27, 2011.
• Rev. Vivian Loughrey, Parochial Vicar at Blessed
John XXIII Church, Miramar, effective July 1, 2011.
• Rev. Henryk Pawelec, Administrator, San Pedro
Church, Plantation Key, effective July 15, 2011.
• Rev. Francisco J. Permuy, S.J., Parochial Vicar at
Gesu Church, Miami, effective July 31, 2011.
• Rev. Aaron D. Pidel, S.J., Parochial Vicar at Gesu
Church, Miami, effective July 31, 2011.
• Rev. Guillermo Arias, S.J., Spiritual Director at
Saint John Vianney College Seminary, Miami,
effective August 1, 2011.
NEW HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICE
Mrs. Lisa Evans Pinto has been appointed Senior
Director of the new Human Resources Office of the
Archdiocese of Miami, effective July 11, 2011. Mrs.
Pinto will be directing the HR strategy including the
development and administration of HR policies and
programs along with employee compensation and
effectiveness. The new HR office will oversee the
areas of pension, health, life insurance benefits and
safe environment. The HR office is located on the first
floor by the main entrance at the Pastoral Center.
OFFICE OF FAMILY LIFE
Mrs. Lucía Báez Luzondo has been appointed
Director of the Family Life Office, effective July 25,
2011. She will be responsible for the design and
implementation of Archdiocesan programs and
services such as preparation for the Sacrament of
Marriage, marriage enrichment and the support of
family life within the Archdiocese, in coordination
with all the parishes.
OFFICE OF SCHOOLS
Dr. Donald Edwards has been appointed Associate
Superintendent for Secondary Schools, effective
August 1, 2011. Dr. Edwards’ responsibilities will
include overseeing the Catholic educational
philosophy of the Archdiocese of Miami in all the
Archdiocesan high schools while providing
leadership in forming and implementing a five year
strategic plan.
PERMISSION GRANTED
Reverend Monsignor Pedro García retired on
July 1, 2011.

Get-Well Wishes and Prayers for
• Rev. Msgr. Emilio Vallina, who is recovering after
a short stay at Jackson South Hospital.
• Rev. Msgr. William Dever, Rev. Bryan Dalton,
and Rev. Michael Lynch, who were recently in the
hospital seeking medical attention.
Requiescant in Pace
† Reverend Val LaFrance, O.P., who died on
July 2, 2011, at the St. Dominic Priory in
Washington, D.C., after a period of failing health.
Fr. LaFrance was well known to the Miami
faithful for his powerful preaching as well as his
personal testimony as a recovering alcoholic.
† Mr. Luis Ugarte, brother-in-law of Rev. Juan
López, who died June 24, 2011, in Spain.
† Mr. Rafael Huertas, father of Rev. Alvaro
Huertas, who died June 24, 2011, in Miami.
† Deacon Allen Asselin, ordained for the
Archdiocese of Miami in 1989, who died July 1,
2011, in Miami.
† Mrs. Digna Ortiz, mother of Deacon Esteban
Ortiz, who died June 11, 2011, in Miami.
Office of Family Life
RETROUVAILLE PROGRAM
The Office of Family Life is in the process of building
the infrastructure and teams needed to provide
“Retrouvaille”, a program of renewal and enrichment
for troubled marriages in our area.
Priests and Lay volunteers interested in getting
involved by joining a team are asked to call Linda at
954-558-6151.
