From Baron Caleb Reynolds
As I posted in the last two month's Ice
Dragon, I wish to call for
bids for new Baronial cloaks. At the moment, there
is only one Baronial cloak; I was informed that the
second one was damaged beyond repair a reign or two
ago. I would like a new pair made and ready by
December of next year so that the new B&Bs will
have matching cloaks. The cloaks need to be winter
weight and have the Hael arms on the back. If you
are interested, please submit a bid to me with your
design for the cloaks and include an estimate as to
what it would cost to make. Bids were
Due by the July Barony Meeting (July 6th) but no
one has yet submitted anything.
I am also looking for suggestions for Baronial
Awards. It has been months since I have received
any. If you think a member of the Barony is deserving
on recognition, please send me an E-mail,
privately, with details. If you do not know if that
person has that particular award or not, send it anyways.
I can double check with our lists and the
Kingdom OOP. I can also recognize a person for
good work even if they have a particular Baronial
award. Our awards are:
The Haelstone: a token given out to recognize and
thank a person for service to the Barony
The VOID: for Extraordinary service to the
Barony
The NULL: for Extraordinary courtesy
The Golden Bee: for excellent A&S skills
The ODC: for martial skills.
(Barons Report Continued)
The Hael also has two orders that have only
been awarded a very few times:
The Portcullis: for a single act of service to
the Barony, above and beyond all expectations.
The BOCES: for engineering "skills" that
will be talked about for years. (even with therapy)
I would also like start a contest: A haiku contest.
A Pennsic haiku contest. Compose a haiku
about Pennsic and send it to me by Sep. 1st. I
will announce the winner at Summer's End.
The haiku can be solemn or humorus, but it
must be about Pennsic and it must follow the
traditional form of:
1st line: five (5) syllables
2nd line: seven (7) syllables
3rd line: five (5) syllables
There will be no fight practice the first three
weeks of August due to War: that is the 4th,
11th and 18th.
Finally, I want to announce that there will be
no August Barony meeting; instead we will use
the site for a pre-Pennsic sewing class. If you
are going to War this year and will be skipping
the first week, or even if you just need garb,
please come down to the Elk's club and bring
your fabric. If you have a sewing machine,
please bring it. If you can teach basic garb
making techniques, please attend and help those
who need garb. The meeting will be in the room
where the food was at the Heavy Champion
tourney. More information will be posted online
and announced at fight practice as we get closer
to the date.
From the Knight Marshall:
Chronicler Stand in Report
There was an awesome turn out at Champs
of fighters aspiring to become Baronial
Champ or just to have fun fighting. In the end
it was Alrich who won to become Baronial
Heavy Weapons Champion and also bestowed
with best new fighter dagger. Well
done Ulrich.
Next up is Pennsic… Get your gear ready
and don’t forget to hydrate. Hydration starts
the day before just not the day of fighting.
Have fun.
Demo Coordinator Report
Greetings from your Outgoing Demo
Coordinator,
That’s right folks; it’s not a type-o! I will be
finally and officially stepping down as your
Demo Coordinator in September at Summer’s
End event and handing over the reins to
our very own deputy Chatelaine Lady
Brigette de Sainte Mere-Eglise.
Mind you, this in no way let’s anyone off the
hook with me yet in regards to the final two
demos of 2010. I will be working with both
Lady Brigette and Lady Maeve to finalize lining
up participants and layout details for the
upcoming Amherst Museum Scottish Fest on
August 21 st the weekend after Pennsic and the
annual Scareassic Park Penn Dixie demo in
Hamburg on October 2 nd .
Although I will be away at sea for a little
R&R during the time of the Scottish demo in
August, I will be at Penn Dixie in October to
hoist the colors in the Pirate’s Tavern.
Both of these demos are coffer enhancers for
our group so I hope all will stand with our sisters
in society and share their love & knowledge
of what we do with the crowds at both.
Many hands and hearts will be needed to help
make the August demo run smoothly for the
new team, so don’t hesitate to step up and offer
your services where needed whether it be in
demonstrating your prowess in any of the
Martial Arts fields, showing off your skills at
the gentler Arts & Sciences portion of the
demo or volunteering for set-up and break
down.
(DemoCoordinators Report Continued)
We in the Hael have been known for our generous
and hard working natures and I would like
to thank all in advance for their never ending
strength of will and giving hearts who will
make this a perfectly wonderful demo season
once again.
The 39th Great Pennsic Wars
July 30 – August 15, 2010
There! On the horizon it looms, the Great
Pennsic War. Are you ready?
A great deal of work goes into preparing for
visiting the Pennsic. It is a great deal of work
and can be most daunting for new people.
Even experienced SCA members spend great
deals of work getting there gear ready, garb
made, camp decorations created, food and
party planning and so much more.
Hopefully this can serve as a quick guide to
help people get prepared.
Packing list: see web site link to right
Garb: Keep in mind that Pennsic can be hot,
dry, very wet or balmy and combinations of
all. You need garb for the day and spiff garb at
night to go party in.
Food: There are food courts. You can save
money by bringing food but kepp in mind. If it
needs to be heated up you will need to start a
grill or a fire. If it needs refridgeration you will
need ice. Chef Boyardee out of the can has
fueled many Scadians.
Beverages: Yes…. Hydrate often. And if you
are drinking a more festive spirit make sure to
drink plenty of water. Once again ice may be
a factor.
Fun.. Yes.. Have plenty of it. Pennsic is too
much work not to be fun.
Be Safe: Pennsic doens’t make you invulnerable.
Don’t get stupid and risk death or serious
injury. Play and Party Smart!
Ran across this on the web. Had plenty of
useful topics
Pennsic Post It
Livery\Heraldry
Pennsic looks awesome because of the
time people take to decorate their camps
and temselves. Get your and your areas
heraldy proudly on display on sheet
walls, banners, bags, labels, and favors.

Pennsic Post Its
Estrogen & Axes will occur on Tuesday
morning at 10am on the Thrown Weapons
range. All ladies are welcome!
Magdalena
Kingdom Court
Court will be on Wednesday of War Week.
It can be long and hot. Be prepared bring a
chair and drinks.
Merchants
If you need the latest and coolest spiff
clothes from shoes to hats, fiddelee bits,
supplies and etc… bring money.. Some
booths accept credit cards, the store has an
ATM but avoid charges… be liquid and
ready to shop
Children
Please keep an eye on your children. I know
we all think someone one else will watch
our kids, but be the first vigilant line of defense
for your little ones. Make sure your
older kids know to travel in packs and not
get singled off by strangers or offered unknown
substances by strangers. Non
SCA rules apply even at Pennsic.
Once again for those attending Pennsic this
year, I present the link for the Party Calendar.
http://www.pennsic.net/partyplan.html
Please remember when attending any Pennsic
party to take a few simple precautions.
1) Carry picture ID- This is required at most
of the large parties because nobody under 21
has ever had a drink at Pennsic!
2) Try to remember where you are camped-
Drunkenly slurring "I'm somewhere over
there" is not helpful when asking passersby for
directions.
3) Check out prospective hook-ups before you
start drinking- I can't emphasize this strongly
enough. Failure to do this has resulted in untold
humorous, yet horrible mornings.
4) If somebody won't tell you what is in a
drink, DON'T DRINK IT!
5) Never pass out in a port-a-John.
Have a safe and happy War. I'm not responsible
for any loss of sanity or permanent injury
caused by those attending the Piper's Competition.
Callidus
Chatelaines Report
Greetings,
By the time you read this ,many will be gearing
up for Pensic. For those attending for
their first time, I wish you the best of times!
The most important thing is to keep yourself
healthy when attending outdoor and
camping events. Drink , even if you dont feel
thirsty, eat regularly and make sure your
friends do the same! Remember, alcohol and
caffeinated drinks dehydrate you! Chase
them with water or gatorade..
On another note, At Baronial Champs a
gentle drove in from W. Seneca to get in
touch with us , I spoke with him, and gave
him a flyer. We had many pass by and observe
us on that day, including the pastor of
the very nearby church..
At Pensic, I will be attending the Aethelmearc
Chatelaines mtg and the Knowne
World Chatelaines mtg as well as attending
some classes on recruiting and retaining people..
Greeting,
From The Chronicler:
Wow.. So much to write about… so many stories
to tell and pictures to post. It’s July 13th,
I like to publish by the 15th and it seems like
I’m running out of time.
Champs is now past us and Pennsic is on the
horizon. I wanted this issue to have plenty of
Pennsic prep for the new and not as new
members who are getting ready to go to Pennsic.
I hope all can make it to opening ceremonies
and process with the Barony. My lovely wife
and I were proud to be part of it last year and
hope to be there again this year. Put on your
Black and Green and show the Known World
Hoe proud we are of our Barony.
I’m pleased that there are a few original poems
and short stories from fellow Haelies.
It was a great honor to win the Master WilliamBlackfox
award for Best Over All New-
Letter in the SCA . This publication is a reflection
of the Barony so it only seems fit that
it was the Best Over All for this, in my eyes,
is the Best Barony in the Known World. I
thank those chroniclers that came before me
who have inspired what the Ice Dragon is.
Calvert, Tierclin, Braderic and Caleb all
shaped my views on what the Ice Dragon can
be and I share this with them as well as with
all of you.
This being the report for the court
of Caleb Reynolds, Baron of the
Rhydderich Hael at Fight Practice June
30th, A.S. 43. Heralded by THL Filippo de
Sancto Martino. Caleb Reynolds reporting.
His Excellency thanked the populace for
showing up and noted that this was the largest
fight practice the Hael has seen in years.
THL Jairus of the Darklands was called forward
to report on the Heavy Weapons championship,
held that evening. His Lordship
gave details of many bouts of daring do and
then called for the winner of the tourney:
Alrek. The champion's regalia was passed to
Alrek who joined the Baronial Champions.
The scroll was not present but was promised
to be delivered to him as soon as possible. His
Excellency thanked THL Jairus for his service.
Vlad (who might have been Baron Vladisla
Nikulich in disguise) was called forward. His
Excellency congratulated Vlad on his skill of
arms that evening and thanked him for traveling
so far to participate. His Excellency gave
a ring to Vlad for being an inspiration.
His Excellency recounted, briefly, the history
of the Iron Man competition and announced
that Lord Daidalos Pagkration was dumb.... I
mean study enough to be this year's Baronial
Iron Man. The plaque was not present but
will be rescued from it's safe location.
Lord Eirikr was called forth and presented
with the Baronial Keystone and was commanded
to represent the Barony whenever the
Order of the Keystone was called.
Mistress Ekaterina Volkova was called forth
and given a token in thank for acting as MOL
for Champs, not on just one day, but on two
days.
His Excellency announced that Lord Robert
l'Étourdi was to be leaving the safe havens of
the Rhydderich Hael for some months and
asked the assembled populace to join him
wishing Lord Robert safe journeys and
to return when possible.
With commands to eat and drink, court was
closed.
Lady Lilion de Lyondemere was called forth as
the bearer of the novice dagger. THL Filippo,
with the assistance of the past recipients of
the dagger, recounted it's lineage. Lady Lilion
announced, to no one's surprise, that the best
novice of the night was Alrek, who added the
dagger to his ever increasing number of things
to bring home.
And here's my Pennsic Camping Tips
If you have to take a shower in the bath house,
there is a way to do it rather quickly. If you get
the kids Suave 3 in 1 (shampoo, conditioner and
body wash) and start with the top of your head
and work your way down WHILE sanding under
the running shower head, you can take a 2
minute shower.
Baby wiped are a must.
MAKE A LIST!!! And really check it when
you pack the car. This way you won't forget
your boots for battle and have to stop at Walmart
in Dunkirk.
Its better to have it and not need it, then need it
and not have it. If you don't have it, don't be
afraid to ask. I'm pretty sure someone in camp
will have it.
Scottish Eggs are a wonderful invention. You
really should try them.
Original Works from the Bardic Tournament at Baronial Champs
In addition to the competitors Bardic entry, there was a mandatory piece that show cased the Rhydderich Hael, or a person
or group with in the Hael. These are three of the entries from Logan, Faunna and our New Bardic Champion Daedelus.
Master Connors “Silver Dragon” story has graced the pages of the Ice Dragon in the past and will be reprinted another
time.
Written by Logan
You’re from the Hael I hear it again
& my mind goes back to a differnt time….
20 or 30 Fencers take to the green,
A prettier site I’ve never seen
Don Ivan was there so quick and so spry
Disappearing and reappearing
Was this Hael fencing guy
Thinking back further, Caitlin was there
A woman who fought with power and flair
When I started, the now Don Fergus did
teach
How to get inside of an opponents reach
Practice and safety he always did teach
And those moves up close and personal
That give you such grief, I leaned those
At the Master Don Berhends feet
Now I fight shoulder to shoulder
With Alexander whose length of blade
Makes him a lot boulder
And Meade Master Robert LeTourdi
Always ready for a fight or a party is he
Yes I’m from the Hael,
In 5 years where will we be
I don’t know, but I can’t wait and see
Yes I’m from the Hael with big boots to fill.
But now it’s back to the list
With friends um-opponents to kill
Written by Daedelus
Pardon this poem but i wrote it last minute
about the Rhydderych Hael and the people
within it.
What makes us great? I stand here and wonder
(snap) its our fighters, fencers, and pirates that
plunder
Or is it our throwers and archers the best in the
landor craftsmen and scribes with talented
hand
What else could it be? our great Baron Caleb?
ruler of these lands, and bacon loving cherub
The denizens of Aethelmaerc have nothing to
fearwith us guarding the only passage from
Eldeormere
And look at this room and all the tin hats
you all know the saying about swinging tin
hats
(snap again) Its no one group its all of us togethera
bird cannot fly with just one feather
So my friends eat drink and have fun
for the Rhydderyh Hael is second to none
Works from the Bardic Tournament at Baronial Champs Continued
From, Fauna
Imagine yourself in a dark, nasty, dank, muggy forest. Large creatures you don’t have names for yet are crawling everyware,
some as large as your hands. We see Our Valent Baron Caleb, trudging through the muck and the nastyness. He sees a light,
and thinks, "Where there is light, there is bacon! I should go and see if they would give me a room and a meal for the night."
So Caleb makes his way to the castle, and pounds on the great wooden door. 2 beautiful and scantlily clad women open the one
great wooden door. They look at him, look at each other, and back to him, and welcome him in with open arms. They say
"Caleb, we have heard of your travels, please come in and sit with the Sultan." Caleb agrees, and gets changed into some nicer,
not mud covered clothing.
Caleb is taken to the feast hall, where smells that will delight anyones sences fill the room. Jasmine rice, slow cooked meats, and
fruits we have never heard of are seen from the windows in the back of the hall. Caleb is taken to where the Sultan is sitting,
and the Sultan welcomes him with open arms. "Caleb!!! its so good to see you my friend, please come in and sit!!! We were
just about to sit down to a feast." Caleb agrees, and the first course comes out. It's a salad with delicious greens, fresh vegetables,
and other yummie things. Caleb looks around, and things, hmm, the bacon must be being saved for something else. The
Sultan watches caleb looking, and says, "This is fresh from my garden, what do you think?" Caleb takes a moment, waits, and
says, "well, it was certinally delicious, but it could have been better with bacon." the Sultan laughs, and brushes the comment
off.
The next course is brought out, its a delicious creamy cold soup, with succlent bits of chicken and delicious flavorful leeks. Caleb
eats whats he is given, and jokingly says, "well, that was the best soup ive ever had, but it could have been better with bacon."
The sultan laughs, but gives a stern look to the scantilally clad woman serving him, and makes a motion.
The main course is brought out. Lobsters! Peacocks! Boars with apples in there mouths, and cherries for eyes!!! Everything is
cooked to perfection, is juicy, and no expence has been spared in making the finishing touches. Caleb as never seen a beast this
size before! Everyone eats, and they pick the animals clean. The Sultan looks towards caleb, and Jokingly says, I bet that
couldnt have been better with bacon!!! Caleb shakes his head and says, "I tend to disagree, friend" By this time, the Sultan is
getting annoyed at the disrespect from his long time friend.
the next course is brought out, Bakalava, fruits from far reaches of the world, sweet meads, and a strange thing called
"chocolate" The sultan says, I know I know, this could be better with bacon. Caleb laughs, and says, yes, your right. The Sultan
claps his hands, and a large platter of poutine is brought out, covered in pounds and pounds of bacon. Caleb stares in
amazement, bows and says, "this is all ill need for tonight."
The moral of the story? Everything is better with bacon.
From the Chronicals of Brother Thadius of the Sacred
Order of the Impending Doom
I know you have seen him before. I am willing to wager
that you have seen him numerous times, even shared
his company on various occasions and never realized
that he was the same fellow each time. This had been
my experience. Luckily my training within the Order of
The Impending Doom has made me more sensitive to
my surrounding and dare I say more astute to those
happenings and people around me. For as we say in the
Brotherhood, “Always be watching for the other foot to
fall.”
This fore mentioned phenomenon does in fact have a
name. If there was a name for someone who has the uncanny
ability to blend in and go unnoticed and other
times to shine so brightly as to light up every chamber
or camp hey enter, that name would be the same as his.
I have seen him in various styles of garb from the sophisticated
to the garish. I have seen him as a shabby
wallflower invisible to all around and hours later at another
party dressed as a harlequin wooing the ladies
and leading the conga line. At one gathering he was
mistaken for three separate individuals by merely
changing his expression. Smirking he offended a
woman; scowling he defended her honor and smiling he
took her home to see his charcoal etchings.
From the Scribal Guild:
A reminder to all Scribes - There will be no
August meeting due to Pennsic. If you happen
to be going, please remember to check out
the many calligraphy and Illumination classes
offered. The class listing is posted. AEthelmearc
is also hosting a Scribal Tea held in the
Scribal Pavilions in AE Royal, the second
Monday, August 9, 2-4. I hope to see you
there!
For September, our Scribal meeting is after
Summer's End. If you have an assignment
completed for Summer's End, we'll work on
an alternate place to turn them in ahead of
time. I am Autocrating this event.
We can still use blanks - specifically for the
NULL, VOID and Bee. Also, general tournament
scrolls are welcome. These are great
to work on during our down time.
In one battle he may have stood next you in the shield
wall. Standing shoulder to shoulder with you and your
comrades you would have swore you all fought in the
same unit for years. His moves joining with that of
your units as if your had drilled for year, In the next
battle he might be with another unit fighting with spear
as if he has been part of that same unit for years. And
then again, maybe you didn’t make the connection at
all. In pick-ups he might have seemed average and in
bouts with Dukes he may have opened up a bit and
matched them with equal martial brilliance. Some
would say he was holding back, Well some might say
that if they even realized it was the same fighter who
came out in a beautiful German Gothic rig one day
who also came out in barrel plastic and a beat up tabard
the next. Others might testify to his equal performances
in archery, thrown weapons and fencing. That being
if they even knew it was the same gentle. I have
seen peers discuss the performances of seven different
people competing in five different events and not even
realize they were discussing the same man. (cont p )
Reflections from Baronial Champs
There are stories from Baronial Champs that should not go unmentioned. They are the part of what makes the SCA so
great. They are the expression of our humanity, our sense of fun and our bonds of friendship.
There was the light hearted tale of Matithias who made a strong run of becoming Baronial Fencing Champion by working
side bets in a token tournament. I believe he finished 2nd.
There was Dadelos who impressed us with his dramatic reciting to win the Bardic. Maybe more impressively was that he won
the Iron Man not just for participating in all the events but placing very high in many of them. Top finishes in fighting, A&S
(Crying Ponce DeLeon Statue), Thrown weapons and of course Bardic.
There was Erin Caitlin who won the MacGuiver Challenge with just a sheer joy and enthusiasm for the event
And last but not least Logan who won A&S with a home made bow that she even competed in the Archery competition. I
was impressed by how she stopped to thank Robert for teaching her how to make the bow. And then when she awarded Augusto
the Queen Ann for dealing with hard times I think we all saw the meanings of friendship, perseverence and the common
bonds that draw us all together.
The Chronicals of Brother Thadeuss Continued
It was well past “Midnight Madness” and heading
into the “Pre Dawn Nervous Breakdown”. The merchants
were all in their tents and their goods safely covered
for the night and the last of the evening’s drunks
had collapsed somewhere in alcohol induced comas.
The occasional promiscuous Lord or Lady has scrambled
into the night with barely fastened garments in
disarray, inside out, or backwards hoping to keep their
identity hidden from their inebriated influenced bad
choice. I was wandering as I often being ever vigilant
against impending doom and its many personas when I
heard the most beautiful tenor singing a song of home.
There in a small clearing near the merchant’s area I
found a small fire, with an average looking man, wearing
simple yet exceptionally elegant Viking garb. He
sat on an upturned tree stump with a great drinking
horn in his hand. His heavy boots planted into the
ground on either side of the stump, the air filled with
his beautiful song from his lips and the smell of great
ale from his vessel.
When he finished I applauded. He barely seemed startled
but I can tell he was unaware of me up until I
clapped. “Such a beautiful song,” I said. “It sounds so
familiar but I am most certain have never heard it before.”
He nodded with a grin. “I apologize for entering
you camp unannounced, but the song was to vexing.”
He thanked me and motioned towards another stump
for me to join him. I nodded graciously and made my
way to the other side of the fire to take my seat. As I
did so he searched the top of his boot until he found a
pack of cigarettes and a lighter. He offered generously
but I motioned politely against with a wave of my
hand.
“What was that song?” I asked.
He inhaled deeply for more than was probably necessary.
“A simple song from home” he answered.
“A beautiful song indeed,” I said. “You must come
from a beautiful place for the lyrics were truly complimentary.
Where is that you call home?”
The Chronicals of Brother Thadeuss Continued
Without answering he merely passed a jug to me.
“There’s a cup by your feet,” he said. “Feel free to
pour a drink from the jug.” I did and the heavenly
smell of this home brew was a shear delight. Where
he was from now seemed less important than the
tasty beverage in my hands. I asked if he would sing
another song, but he declined politely as he didn’t like
to sing and smoke at the same time but that he did
like to recite poetry while smoking, as it seemed more
appropriate. He stood up and began to recite a
lengthy yet entertaining epic poem. Much like the
song, I had never heard it before. It seemed familiar
but just different enough not to recognize it. His voice
rolled and intonated each word with dramatic flare
stopping to smoke in surprisingly appropriate moments
like well timed dramatic pauses with special
smoke effects.
When he was done I applauded. He bowed politely
and then retook his seat to lift his horn to his lips for a
well-earned quaff of ale. It was then that epiphany
struck me like a Duke.
“Lord Bard, I am Brother Thaddeus of the Sacred Order
of the Impending Doom and I know you better
than any other for I know your secret. I have met you
or witnessed your deeds a thousand times and it wasn’t
until now that I realized that all of those people
were in fact you. A thousand personas for one brilliant
man”
“Brother Thaddeus, “ he laughed, “Is the ale to strong
for you. That is quite a tale. Are you drunk or merely
playing a joke on your poor host.”
“Neither my good host, “I said. “I am most certain
that I am right and your subtle change of expression
gives me further proof I am correct. The untrained eye
would not have
noticed it but I am trained in such things. Now please
do offer your name so that we may be properly friends.”
“Good show Brother Thaddeus I would accept you in
friendship but I do wish to hear more proof than what
was certainly minor ale induced facial twitch.”
“I have been trained in the order to observe the very
minute and picayune for that is the way of my order.
Our motto is, ‘Always be looking for the other foot to
fall’. I noticed your brand of cigarettes. I have seen hundreds
of men smoking them and merely thought they
must be very popular. I once considered smoking and it
seemed that I should smoke what the truly interesting
were smoking. I could not find them anywhere. It now
dawned on me that cigarettes that popular would be
easy to find let alone not impossible to find. So it seems
logical that it was not hundreds of men smoking the
same popular brand but the same man smoking nonexistent
cigarettes. And may I add you should cut back
a bit for health sake.”
“Well played Brother Thaddeus!” he exclaimed and applauded.
“It is truly an honor to call such a brilliant
man friend. I wish to offer you my name but I must
swear you to secrecy.”
“I was a bit surprised but at this point nothing should
surprise me about him. Secrecy,” I asked, “Are you
wanted for murder, espionage, or possible ripping those
do not remove tags off of mattresses?”
“Oh no my new friend. I ask for secrecy for what had
not started intentionally has become an exceptional
game. Once every one can say, ‘hey look its what’s his
name.’ events would lose some zeal.”
“As a Brother of the Sacred Order of the Impending, I
Thaddeus do swear my oath of secrecy and seal it
with the traditional stomp of solemnest.” For with
that I stomped, leaped, stomped again, spun and
clapped thrice with a howl and a stomp for good
measure, as is the way with in the brotherhood.
He stepped forward, extended his hand and said,
“Brother Thaddeus, I am Alfredo DeNunzo of Parts
Unknown.” We locked arms in friendship.
“Well met!” I said. “Now where is Parts Unknown? I
remember. Isn’t it a Shire in Lochac?”
“No. Not in Lochac, “ He said, “It’s a Principality of
the Kingdom of Er in the Unknown World.”
My lords! My ladies --
And everybody else here NOT sitting on a
cushion: Today, today, you find yourselves
equals. For you are all equally blessed.
For I have the pride, the privilege, nay, the
pleasure Of introducing to you a Knight, sired
by Knights, A Knight who can trace his lineage
back beyond Charlemagne.
I first met him atop a mountain near Jerusalem,
Praying to God, Asking His forgiveness,
For the Saracen blood spilt by his sword.
Next, he amazed me still further in Italy
When he saved a fatherless beauty
From the would-be ravishings
Of her dreadful Turkish uncle.
In Greece, he spent a year in silence
Just to better understand the sound
of a whisper.
And so, without further gilding the lily,
And with no more ado,
I give to you the Seeker of Serenity,
The Protector of Italian Virginity,
The Enforcer of our Lord God,
