cargo. From July 2009, the Company launched direct deliveries of<br />
Group’s export products to European sea ports.<br />
In November 2009, a logistics office of the Company in Europe — Norilsk<br />
Nickel Logistics B.V. was established.<br />
In December 2009, the management of the Company decided to overhaul<br />
and upgrade the Company’s cargo handling terminal in the Murmansk<br />
Commercial Sea Port. The plan provides for reconstruction of<br />
the existing engineering services, railway tracks connecting two terminal<br />
sites, construction of new railway, storage facilities and installation<br />
of new equipment. The implementation period of the project —<br />
22 months; envisaged investments — 1.1 billion Rubles.<br />
In the reporting period, the overhauling of Dudinka port continued. In<br />
particular, four new mobile cranes were commissioned. As a result, the<br />
Dudinka sea port has eleven up-to-date Liebherr mobile cranes having<br />
the maximum working load of 63 tonnes each, which significantly<br />
increases the port capabilities in cargo handling.<br />
In 2009, Taimyr Airlines upgraded its aircraft fleet and started operating<br />
three Boeing 737–800NG passenger medium-range aircrafts. The<br />
airline carries out regular flights from Norilsk to Moscow, Krasnoyarsk<br />
and Sochi.<br />
In accordance with 2010 investment program, key investment projects<br />
include: building an ice class tanker and constructing a transshipment<br />
terminal in Murmansk.<br />
SUPPORT BUSINESS UNIT<br />
The main goal of the Support business unit is to:<br />
• provide the core production and other business units of the Group<br />
with its products, works and services;<br />
• purchase and sell material and technical resources for the Group,<br />
collect, process and sell ferrous and non-ferrous scrap;<br />
• carry out general construction, mining and development, roadheading,<br />
drilling-and-blasting and special operations; provide<br />
comprehensive services with regard to running repairs and overhauls<br />
of the basic production assets of the Polar Division;<br />
• provide Group’s employees with healthful and dietary meals and<br />
arrange distribution of food products in the Norilsk Industrial District.<br />
The Support business unit includes the following entities:<br />
• ООО Norilsk Support Complex;<br />
• CJSC Taimyr Fuel Company — is engaged in supplies of oil products<br />
both for needs of the Group and for third parties;<br />
• OOO Metal Scrap Recycling Plant — is engaged in collection,<br />
processing and sale of ferrous and base metal scrap generated at the<br />
Group’ enterprises as a result of dismantling;<br />
• OOO Polar Construction Company — is engaged in carrying out<br />
general construction, mining and development, road-heading,<br />
drilling-and-blasting and special operations, and providing a complex<br />
of services with regard to running repairs and overhauls of basic<br />
production assets of the Polar Division;<br />
• OOO Norilsknickelremont — engaged in maintenance and repair of<br />
Group’s main assets.<br />
RESEARCH AND ENGINEERING BUSINESS UNIT<br />
The main objective of the Research and engineering business unit is<br />
to provide a complete range of engineering services: from blueprinting<br />
and design to project management, implementation and commissioning.<br />
As a rule, the activities conducted consist in design and development<br />
of production facilities for the Company divisions, primarily the<br />
Mining and metallurgical business unit.<br />
The Research and engineering business unit includes the following entities:<br />
• OOO Institute Gipronickel — that unites research and scientific assets<br />
of the Group (Gipronickel Institute in St. Petersburg, Norilskproject Institute<br />
and Mining and Metallurgical Research Center in Norilsk, and<br />
Design and Research Center in Monchegorsk);<br />
• Norilsk Process Technology — a research division located in Australia<br />
and dealing in development of technologies and simulation of flow<br />
diagrams and processes.<br />
