saving FoRd time and money the aim of the ‘Right Car, Right Port’ project was to create a flexible, agile supply chain solution as a multitrade, multi-region application – saving resources, time and money. 14 ROUTES 2 2007 The project was handled by a core team including Craig, IT Senior Solutions Architect, Allan Hird, and Runhild Persensky, a member of the Oceania Business Development team at the time. In fact, WWL’s Melbourne team are now into a second phase involving Ford vehicles being moved from Europe to Australia by WWL. ALLAN sAys ThE ability to leverage the company’s wide experience and global know-how in developing similar IT applications speeded the effort to deliver on Ford’s requirements. “From the very start we set out to develop a flexible, agile supply chain solution as a multi-trade, multi-region application from the start that could also cater to non-WWL carriers needs,” says Allan. Kevin Moore, Vice President, Commercial, WWL HoW to get tHe CaR to tHe RigHt PoRt 2 WWL sends a request through to Ford S.A. to issue change of stow if unit is still at the terminal. Oceania, underlines that the ‘Right Car, Right Port’ enables Ford to better manage the distribution of its vehicles by getting them to market as quickly and efficiently as possible. “The programme saves equipment resources, time and money and it is also good for the environment as it cuts down unnecessary logistics movements,” says Kevin. Craig has no doubt about the possibilities that the success of the project holds for the future: “The ‘Right Car, Right Port’ solution has exciting future potential because it is a true supply chain innovation allowing customers to handle their logistics better, faster and cheaper than ever before,” says Craig.
