Aasife Biriyani: The Story Behind Chennai's
Most Loved Biriyani Restaurant
From selling Biriyani on a bike to establishing 3 restaurants in Chennai, Mr. Aasife Ahmed's life
tells an amazing story of struggle and determination
Chennai's most
experienced
Biriyani Chef
was born in Chennai
and practiced, perfected
his craft here. At 22,
Aasife found himself, a
young man with barely
any money to fill his
own stomach, but with
a burning ambition to
conquer the Chennai
culinary arena. In 2000,
he decided to start selling
Biriyani from his bike,
earning a meager 100
rupees a day. The slow
start didn't demotivate
him and he kept working
on improving his biriyani
recipe, till his first shop
was established. This
marked the beginning
of the famous Aasife
Biriyani.
For a 10th standard
dropout, Aasife Ahmed
dreamt big, and has
till date opened three
outlets, selling up to
1,500 Kgs of Biriyani
a day. With an incisive
palate and keen
business acumen,
Aasife has made giant
strides in his growth
trajectory. He believes in
retaining the authentic
cooking technique and

2003) was a doyen of
Journalism and was
associated with the
newspaper industry
for over 50 years,
particularly with ‘The
Mail’ and ‘The Hindu’. His
passion for writing made
him author three books
on Journalism, notable
among them being “Here
is the News! Reporting
for the Media”. On the
spiritual side, he wrote a
book on Shridi Sai Baba
called “God who walked
on Earth”.
To commemorate
his birth centenary, a
committee consisting
of eminent citizens of
Chennai was formed and
a decision was taken to
perpetuate his memory
by recognizing talented
journalism students
and one best journalist
from across India on the
centenary year.
Mr. R.P. Ram Mohan,
his son said, “This is
the first year where
the committee will give
away 1 Lakh each to five
students of Journalism
from the Asian College
of Journalism, Chennai
and also recognize an
Eminent Journalist from
India and present him/

Parthasarathy, born

new dimensions in news
projection. Towards
the end of his career
he was commissioned
to write the great book
“Hundred years of

book on the history of
Indian Independence
movement.

Ebrahim, young formula
car racing champion,
who has set the racing
tracks on fire right from
his teenage.
Armaan Ebrahim has
won both National
Karting and National
Racing Championships
at the age of 14, and
became the world’s
youngest driver to drive
the A1GP when he was
16. He has since then
become a top selection
for teams around the
world and has won
several national level
racing championship
titles.
