The three sisters were among those traveling with NETWORK’s “Nuns
on the Bus: Nuns Drive for Faith, Family and Fairness” tour across
nine states in June and early July.

When Sister M. Michaeleen (Frieders) heard
that NETWORK’s “Nuns on the Bus: Nuns Drive
for Faith, Family and Fairness” tour was making
a two-day stop in South Bend, Indiana, she and
others rallied Holy Cross sisters at Saint Mary’s
to greet the bus upon its arrival and participate
in local events, including a visit to the Sister
Maura Brannick, CSC, Health Center.
Many local sisters, particularly those who
serve vulnerable persons in the community,
attended the four South Bend events that
were part of NETWORK’s nine-state, two-week
bus tour from Iowa to Washington, D.C. The
purpose of “Nuns on the Bus” was to highlight
the work women religious do to meet the needs
of people at the economic margins; reveal how
federal budget cuts passed by the House of
Representatives will hurt struggling families;
