The <strong>Heckscher</strong> Museum’s Executive Director Erik Neil will survey <strong>the</strong> development of<br />
landscape painting in 19th- and 20th-century America with specific reference to <strong>the</strong><br />
Museum’s Mythic Landscapes of America exhibition. The lecture will include discussion of<br />
such major artists as Thomas Cole, George Inness, Frederick Church, and<br />
Albert Bierstadt among o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

from some of Long Island’s most famous literary inhabitants. James Friel, Kate Kelly,<br />
and friends will read works from Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg,<br />
and o<strong>the</strong>r “beat generation poets.” .<br />

explains, “One painting will often suggest alternatives that can be followed and<br />
exploited. Ideas can spread like branches of a tree. Most recently, Nicholson’s paintings<br />
contain abstract and representational references to landscape, particularly his<br />
