HIMALAYAN PATH
Principal investigator: Dr. Riccardo Vrech – University of
Bergamo
Dr. Riccardo Vrech carried out a research mission in northwest
Nepal, in the districts of Mustang and Dolpo, with the
objective to analyze and study the Bon culture, the most
ancient native religious tradition of the Tibetan people.
During the itinerant part of the field work, photographs and
images were collected along with annotations and biographical
stories of the lives of the masters who created the main
monastic institutions and transmitted the teachings of the
Bon doctrine.
The research was focused moreover on the study of the ritual
life with particular attention to chod (“cutting through the
ego”), connected to the expulsion of demons. The study has
analyzed the liturgy and local perception of the ritual. With
regards to related cooperation and development activities,
the restoration of the Thaktsen Rabgyal Ling monastery has
been documented. This project was funded by the Ev-K?-
CNR Committee, Tapriza Verein NGO and Friends of Dolpa
NGO.
