The Memorial Heart Tree is up and being decorated with Memorial Hearts donated
in memory of a loved one, or in thanksgiving for someone. The front side of the
heart shows the name of the remembered person, and the donor name will be on
the back. After January 15th, the tree will come down and the hearts will be returned to
the donor. The donor name will then be placed on the perpetual Donor Board located
near the kitchen entrance at Aloha Hall. If you would like to remember someone with
a Memorial Heart, please see Harold Voigt or Barb Wautlet for an information request
form.
Christa McAuliffe Day, Jan. 28. The teacher and six other astronauts perished in
the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger on this date in 1986.

A Thanksgiving Follow-up

All Teakwood East residents were invited to a
home-cooked traditional Thanksgiving meal,
which included turkey, dressing, mashed and
sweet potatoes, green beans, and cranberry sauce.
Once we were full, there were 10 free bingo games.
Once again, Mr. Houle gave us $700 to help
us keep the cost of the dinner at $2 for all park
residents. Once again, we really appreciated his
generosity.
And a thank you to those who helped make
this another fine holiday: Joyce Parker, Ronnie
Kierstead, Maria deRee, Harriet Halgren, Barb and
Keith Wautlet. Also aiding were John and Monique
Benfield, a great help as always; and thanks to Natalie
and Wil Kleinmeyer, who set the tables. And we
can’t forget our husbands, Jim and Larry, who did whatever we needed them to do.

Where is everyone? So many missing members!
Did they get snowed in? For those of you who
did make it here, come join us in the Computer
Lab on the second Monday of each month for open meetings.
The next meeting will be Monday, January 11th in
the Tiki Hall, and you will find us in the back right-hand
corner.
If you would like to join the club, the cost is $30 annually. This entitles you to
use the Lab anytime Tiki Hall is open. We do have a small library of . . . what else . .
. computer books! Some of these are meant for computer virgins, while others are for
those who need a little info to keep them going.
There are 4 computers, 2 printers, a paper cutter, and a shredder available.
Look for inserts in this Media Newsletter, as well as in future Newsletters. We are
trying to get the word around that we are here.

Thanksgiving is over. Thanks to Charlie Spanton and his helpers for a great meal.
It takes a lot of work to put on an event, and we, the Board, appreciate the help
we receive. The first Brunch of the year under the direction of Ian Denholm was
its usual success. The next Brunch under Tom Blanchard’s leadership is promising to
have surprises. Another major event just completed is the Flea Market. Buffy and her
big group of helpers worked very hard to raise the most we have ever made on a Flea
Market. These and all of the events planned for the residents are what make Teakwood
West a great place to live.
Volunteers are what make all these events so successful and we need a few more
people to help. You don’t have to take on the entire event … unless you really want to
and that would be a good thing, but if you have an hour or so to help set up or clean up
it would make the planning a lot smoother.
January events include the Brunch and Golf Tournament. Keep an eye on the bulletin
board for any changes or updates.

are January 7 and January 21. Please have your
papers at the end of your driveway by 8:30 a.m. Papers,

CARDBOARD OR PLASTIC/PAPER BAGS.

The Neighborhood Watch Program is now in effect in
Teakwood West. If you see anything that looks suspicious,
any criminal activity, or people trespassing,
call the Largo Police - 587-6730. With your help, we can
deter crime in our neighborhood. Also, remember to lock
your house, shed, car, bicycle, etc. With the economy as it
is, burglaries are on the increase. We are going to be doing
more night patrols walking between and behind the mobile
to check for broken windows, open doors, etc. Again, please
call the police if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

Once again, our Teakwood West residents and the Saturday night bingo
players have been very generous with their contributions to the RCS Food
Bank - 655 pounds were collected this past month - bringing our grand total to
6144 pounds - over 3 tons of food donated since we started collecting!!! The number
of people in the Largo-Clearwater area needing assistance has greatly increased because
of the economic downturn, so please continue to bring your donations to coffees, dinners,
Bingo, etc. (see list on the board of items most needed). They also accept food
coupons - you can drop them in the slotted box in the clubhouse.

solved the problem of the
meat slicer (thanks go to Ian Denholm
& Bruce Johnston for taking
the time to help) … once we solved
the problem of the warming oven,
which after 3 hours was not warm
(we ended up using the new roasters
to keep everything warm - thanks,
Rita for your timely suggestion) … once we realized how long it takes for the stove
burners to heat to maximum - do not turn them off while cooking!!! We know now!!!

We served 151 people what we believe was a very good meal of sausages, ham, beans,
potatoes and eggs. To those who have not been involved with running a function, may
not know how much work is done by these volunteers. Serving food for 2+ hours
takes 3 days of work (shopping, cooking & serving). To that I would like to thank Barry Furey,
Lynn Oliver, and Bruce Johnston for their time shopping, chopping onions and potatoes the day
before. Thanks to all the cooks - Paul B, John F, Milo P, Bill P, Alex K, runner Bob H plus the

What a success!! After all the worry - Will it rain? Do
we have enough donations? In this economy, will
we have buyers? And all that worry was for naught!
We had a beautiful day, the donations come pouring
in, and we had wave after wave of buyers. At the end of the
day when the proceeds were tallied, we found that the profit
on this Flea Market was more than it has ever been!! All due
to the many residents who volunteered and worked so hard
(some of them for days) unpacking, sizing, sorting, pricing,
picking up and delivering, baking, setting items out on tables
or hanging them on racks, arranging furniture, etc. in the laundry
area, and selling the items received from the residents of
Teakwood (whose donations make the Flea Market possible).
Thanks also to the raffle people, the men directing traffic and
placing the Flea Market signs along Rosery and Missouri, the cooks who made such a delicious
lunch, our emcee, and everyone else who had a part in putting on this important annual event.
All of you deserved the BIG round of applause you received at the coffee following
the Flea Market. You’re the greatest!!!!

First of all, WELCOME. We would very much like to
meet you at our morning coffees held on the first and third
Tuesday of every month. We gather in the clubhouse at
9:00 a.m. for fellowship and donuts. There is no charge
– residents submit donations throughout the year to help
cover the costs. Bring your own coffee cup and if you want to take a chance on winning one of
the Share the Wealth prizes, bring a dollar for three tickets. This is a good way for you to become

Our first Tournament will be January 16, 2010 at
Pinecrest Golf Course. After golf (back at the hall),
we will have some liquid refreshments, a putting
contest at 4:30 and dinner at 5:00 p.m. (Bring your own
dishes). The sign-up sheets are in the hall. The cost for golf
and dinner - $22.00, and for dinner only - $6.00. Both Steve
Dyl and John Fowler will be collecting for the tournament.
Due to the large turnouts at our tournaments, we
have to implement some guidelines for sign-up. To
be eligible for the tournament you must have played
at least two (2) rounds of golf with the golf group
(Pinecrest or Largo) within the past year. In-house
guests will not be able to play but if staying with you will be able to purchase a meal
ticket for the dinner following the golf.
Teams and tee times will be posted prior to the tournament. If you or any member
of your group are late, your group will be placed last, so make sure you arrive
with plenty of time to spare for your tee time.

Teakwood Village is now offering our services to do the trimming and edging.
Please contact the main office for the pricing and form to set up Teakwood Village as
your lawn service. Please note that you do not have to sign up; this is a voluntary service.
If you prefer to do your own or you have a good service, stay with that. Also, should
you not sign up for the service and the trimming gets out of hand you will be fined as
has been done in the past.
The services we will be offering are the edging and trimming only or edging, trimming,
weeding and bush trimming. Let’s all keep Teakwood Village beautiful.
