The Port of Long Beach (POLB)<br />

The Port of Long Beach (POLB) is located in San Pedro Bay<br />

adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles. POLB is located 20 miles<br />

south of downtown Los Angeles and situated on 3,200 acres<br />

with 10 piers, 80 berths and 66 Post-panamex gantry cranes.<br />

The Port of Long Beach was the second busiest port in the<br />

U.S. in 2013. It is the twenty-third busiest port in the world and<br />

part of the ninth busiest port complex when combined with<br />

the Port of Los Angeles. The POLB handled 6.7 million TEUs<br />

in 2013; total cargo value was $155 billion. The port serviced<br />

5,000 vessels in 2013 and 75 million metric tons of cargo. On<br />

average, the Port of Long Beach handled the equivalent of over<br />

18,350 TEUs each day during 2013.<br />

The top import commodity from Taiwan in 2013 was electrical<br />

equipment and electronic parts, which totaled $320.6 million,<br />

followed by computers and parts valued at $246.7 million. The<br />

next top three imports from Taiwan were motor vehicles and<br />

parts ($219.2 million), iron and steel products ($198.7 million)<br />

and plastics and plastic products ($95.3 million). Rounding out<br />

the top ten were furniture, toys, miscellaneous metal products,<br />

medical instruments, and iron and steel.<br />
