NEW ANIMALS HEALTH CHECK LIST
It’s almost that time of year again. Most exhibitors have or will be getting their animals in the next couple
of months. Therefore one should have a check list for new animals once they arrive. Quarantine your new
animal away from other animals at least for two weeks to avoid bringing in new diseases to your farm or
barn. Clean out and spray down your stall area with disinfectant. Clorox and water works great.
While at summer shows or fairs with your animals, try and avoid sharing equipment, and watering or
feeding buckets. Make sure and disinfect before using it. Also watch for signs of sickness when returning
home after a show. This is usually the most critical time to spread diseases.
Routine Things
- Fresh water available at all times
- Fresh feed stored in rodent proof barrels or boxes
- clean, safe environment
- make sure animal has had all vaccinations
- deworming
