2.1 Important dates<br />

• 2003<br />

Launch of the FTSE/ASE 140 Index<br />

(2/1/2003): On 2.1.2003 the <strong>Athens</strong><br />

<strong>Exchange</strong> in cooperation with FTSE<br />

Group launched new benchmark index<br />

covering the Greek market, the FTSE /<br />

ASE 140 Index. It comprises the 140<br />

stocks of the existing FTSE / ASE 20<br />

(blue chips), FTSE / ASE Mid cap 40<br />

(medium capitalisation) and FTSE /<br />

ASE Smallcap 80 (small capitalisation)<br />

indices. The new index will be<br />

calculated every trading day in real<br />

time, and will be reviewed twice a year<br />

in April and October.<br />

Launch of the FTSE/ASE<br />

Mediterranean 100 Index<br />

(19/6/2003): <strong>Athens</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong>, Tel-<br />

Aviv <strong>Stock</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> and Cyprus<br />

<strong>Stock</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> launched the joint<br />

stock market index, FTSE<br />

Mediterranean 100. The new FTSE<br />

Med-100 Index started its operation on<br />

19.6.2003. FTSE Med 100 is the first<br />

index of that kind, i.e. an index that<br />

includes shares of more than one stock<br />

exchange and is calculated in real time.<br />

The calculation will be realised in real<br />

time from 09:45 until 17:00 (Greece)<br />

and is distributed every single minute.<br />

The FTSE-Med 100 Index is composed<br />

of 100 stocks of the three <strong>Exchange</strong>s,<br />

some of which are also listed on US<br />

and other European stock markets.<br />

Law 3152/19-6-2003: ‘Establishment<br />

and supervision of <strong>Stock</strong> Markets and<br />

organised markets, new tasks of the<br />

Capital Market Commission and<br />

amendments of legislation concerning<br />

the capital market’.<br />

Government Bonds Market<br />

(29/5/2003): The operation of the<br />

Government Bonds market<br />

commenced on the <strong>Athens</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong><br />

(ATHEX), through the trading of Fixed<br />

Income Securities, issued by the Greek<br />

Government, into the Integrated<br />

Automated Electronic Trading System<br />

(OASIS).<br />
