Section 1
The Follower ............... Metaphor (5.01)
Everywhere I go
There’s something trailing behind
Following my every footstep
It remains deep in my mind
Every second every minute every hour
Every moment of the day
It follows me extra carefully
As if I’m awaited prey
Will it ever follow another
Or cease to be seen or show
It is a weight I am constantly pulling
But it’s kind of sad you know
Unlucky Worm ........... Personification (5.02)
There once was a little worm
Who wanted to eat a pickle
So he started toward the store
And brought along a nickel
It would take weeks to get there
But it would be worth the wait
He had to make sure he hurried
Before it was to late
He finally got there after a long while
Picked the perfect pickle and payed
He had his pickle at last
And knew his day was made
As soon as he left the store
A bird swooped down like a plane
And snatched the pickle right out of his mouth
And was never seen again
Section 2
The Truth .................. Personification (5.03)
What really happened,
after Apollo 11 took flight?
Did it actually land on the moon,
the one we see at night?
I sometimes question what happened,
and am not sure that I believe.
Is it the truth, or a myth,
that America was said to achieve?
They never returned because of aliens,
One of the crazy things people say.
My heart cries, wanting to know the answer,
of what truly happened that day!
The World Today ............. Personification (5.04)
What would really happen,
if it all was taken away.
Televisions, computers, and cell phones,
I could honestly go on all day.
All imagination is already gone,
it is truly such a sad loss.
Luckily I was not hypnotized,
in to thinking technology was boss.
I still enjoy things like camping,
and rowing restlessly down raging rivers.
But when I think about some people today,
it engulfs my body in shivers.
Section 3
Dancing in The Sky ................ Haiku Poem (5.06)
Butterflies dancing
As If in a recital.
The sky is their stage.
Rivers ................. Hyperbole (5.06)
Where does it start?
Where is it going?
These questions go through my mind,
when I watch a river flowing.
Right upon the surface,
there are millions of fish in mid swim.
But deep below, some as big as elephants,
rest in the dark, cold, and dim.
Rivers bring up questions,
and may contain an unknown beast.
But they also can be calming,
and very beautiful, to say the least.
Walking
By: Aileen Fisher
Father’s legs are very long.
He seldom walks for fun.
He mostly walks for getting there,
Which makes ME have to run.
The Skateboard
By: Willard R. Espy
My daddy has bought me a skateboard;
he tried it out first in the store.
And that is the reason why Mommy
says daddy can walk anymore
Flowers
By: Eloise Greenfield
Fog
By: Carl Sandburg
My stepfather brought me flowers today.
For my first solo ---- my first bouquet,
yellow and peach and purple and red,
“Daughter, you sang like an angel, ” he said.
My stepfather brought me flowers, and I
pretended there wasn’t a tear in his eye,
flowers and happiness tied with a bow,
because I had just sung my first solo.
THE fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
About the Poet
Brittany has had a love for story and poem
writing since a young age. Many of her family
members, also love to read and write. So she
was greatly exposed to many different types of
literature as a child. Her parents continued to
help and support her, as she grew as a writer.
This helped mold her into the fantastic poet
she is today.
She really got into writing poetry during her first
year of middle school. She was asked to write
a poem about her favorite place, and her ideas
continued flowing from there. In fact, this year
alone, she has written seven poems. To this
day, she still continues to write poetry; and
maybe one day, you, will see a book of her
poems in stores. Brittany Youngblood, 14
