What is NCCCRA?
It is all of us.
The North Carolina Continuing Care Residents
Association is a non-profit organization comprised
of members who have one thing in common:
they all live in a continuing care retirement
community.
The NCCCRA has three goals:
• to further the interests of residents
• to act as a watchdog for legislation of concern
to residents
• to advocate for and support legislation positively
affecting residents’ interests
More than 90 such communities, including Arbor
Acres, have representatives who serve on
NCCCRA’s board. We are fortunate that Carolyn
Vaughn is our representative.
To many of you the name “Nancy Spencer “ is synonymous
with style, elegance, and creativity. Nancy,
orginally from Mississippi, has lived in Winston-Salem
for over 50 years, and
has devoted much of
her energy to creating
beautiful gardens.
This afternoon join us
for a tour of Nancy’s
yard, filled with whimsical ornaments, a gazebo, and,
of course, beautiful flowers. A special invitation is
extended to residents who are new not only to Arbor
Acres but Winston-Salem as well.
Call Carolyn Vaughn for more information.
Village Shop
Volunteer Spotlight
It’s in her DNA!
Helen Caines has spent her retirement
volunteering, and the Village
Shop is the most recent beneficiary
of her dedication.
Helen literally sets up shop every
Wednesday from 10:30 am to noon
in Alibi Café in Asbury Place. She
has all the necessities and some clothes and accessories
from “headquarters,” and has built quite a
following.
Helen was for many years on the board of Habitat for
Humanity in Kingsport, Tennessee, and helped start a
ReStore from a few items in a stripped-down building
to a thriving, million-dollar business.
Next time you see Helen, thank her for working a
regular shift in the Village Shop and pulling another
at Asbury Place!
