People are hungry. You can help. Hunger Awareness Month benefits Crisis Control Food Pantry Can you imagine the despair of being hungry - really hungry - and not knowing where your next meal is coming from? Can you imagine starting the day on an empty stomach which still isn’t filled once you try to go to sleep that night? Can you imagine having to live that way - as a child? Appalling as it sounds, more than 50 million Americans don’t eat because they don’t have food. In the Piedmont Triad alone, one in five children goes hungry. April is Hunger Awareness Month at Arbor Acres. Designated as such by your Resident Council, these next 30 days will be filled with events to support Crisis Control Ministry’s Food Pantry. We encourage everyone to get involved, especially by filling the blue bins around campus as much and as often as possible with non-perishable food items. In our first Hunger Awareness Month last year we raised over $5,800.00 for Crisis Control’s Food Pantry. That’s enough to help 929 people with over a week’s worth of food. We also collected over 1,270 food items, enough to serve 60 people over a 7 -10 days period. This year your donations go even further through the Feinstein Foundation challenge (see below.) How to Give • Fill-a-Sack with nonperishable food, then place in designated blue bins in Berrier Front Lobby, Mary Dalton Library, and Asbury Place. • Write a check and drop in yellow box outside the library. area. Make checks payable to: Crisis Control Ministry. Double your donation. Write Feinstein Challenge in memo line. Matching Gift Challenge Look for this symbol designating Hunger Awareness events. For the sixteenth year, the Feinstein Foundation of Cranston, RI, has established a $1 million challenge grant to help anti-hunger agencies around the country. Every dollar and food item donated increases Crisis Control Ministry’s share of the challenge funds. Make sure you note “Feinstein Challenge” on the memo line of your check.

Find out what you can do to decrease your own risk factors, how to recognize the signs of a stroke, and the immediate action to take should you or someone you’re with exhibit any signs. Jim Long Jean Steelman Chapel 2:00 pm Hunger Awareness Month Kickoff: Dr. Oz DVD, “Hunger in America” Fellowship Hall Last year the Resident Council voted to support Crisis Control Ministry in its efforts to fight hunger in our community. It was so successful that we’re doing it again!
