Emergency plan
It was noted that Tiptree’s emergency
plan requires updating. An outline
of plans, as recommended by
Colchester BC, will be requested and
it was suggested councillors take
part in a paper exercise, with invited
borough offi cers to advise them.
Broadband
The results of a survey in Tiptree
of broadband speeds indicates that
these vary greatly within even very
short distances, but that speeds in
Tiptree compare favourably with
those in neighbouring villages.
Evensong
An invitation to representatives
of the parish council to attend a
special Jubilee Choral Evensong in
Chelmsford Cathedral on Sunday
May 27 was received.
Tea dance
Tiptree Co-op Community Group
will be holding a tea dance on Wed
May 9 in St. Luke’s Church
extension, Tiptree from 1.45pm
-3.45pm. Admission £3 p//person
(pay at the door) incl. refreshments.
Proceeds are for local charities.

United Reformed Church
There will be a meeting of the
Ladies’ Breakfast Club on Saturday
April 28 in the church hall followed
by a talk by Tessa Perrin, a church
elder. Following this meeting there
will be a coffee morning from 10am
to which everyone is invited.
Cake stall
Tiptree Preschool Playgroup had
a very successful cake stall last
Thursday when they raised £118,
with £118 of draw tickets being sold.
The committee wish to thank the
generous public who came and
bought cakes and draw tickets,
Barclay’s Bank for the venue for
the sale and last but not least the
parents, grandparents and staff
who made and donated an amazing
amount of cakes.
Death of councillor
Before the start of the Council
meeting a minute’s silence was kept
in memory of Cllr Mike Robinson
who died on Saturday (April 21).
As a parish councillor for a number
of years, and latterly as vice-chair,
Mike Robinson worked tirelessly for
the Tiptree community and played
an important role in establishing the
community centre.
Tiptree Heath
The Tiptree Heath community
warden reported that two pony
information sessions had been held
the previous week to demonstrate
the benefi ts of winter grazing by the
ponies.
She said that the ponies have been
a big draw for members of the
public who have treated them with
due respect.
The ponies will leave The Heath on
May 1 and will return in September
for the duration of the winter. Some
cows will return during May and will
stay until September.
The summer wildlife walks have
begun, the next being an evening
bird walk on May 15.
Fundraising as an alternative to
the Heath Fair is going well, with a
successful stall outside Tyler’s in
The Centre.
The Friends of Tiptree Heath
(FoTH) will be holding an Auction
of Promises in St Luke’s extension
on Saturday May 12, together
with a Heath Art and Photography
Exhibition.
Grove Road playing field
a) It was decided that the new
family shelter should be lit and
should be protected by CCTV
cameras.
It was agreed that both equipment
and costs should be investigated
and that the advice of Colchester
Crime Prevention Offi cer Colin Stiff,
should be sought.
b) It was decided to link the
proposed car park with the
installation of the skatepark.
Costs for these works and for a
suitable surface (recycled rubber?)
for the car park will be investigated.
