Park lane land
There was discussion on the
maintenance plan for the land,
particularly in view of the concerns
of a resident. It was pointed out
that, depending on soil type, land
left to itself will quickly become
overgrown either with birch scrub
followed by a near-impenetrable
tangle of oak scrub, or by
blackthorn.
Councillors agreed that they
wished Mr Fred Boot’s plan to
be left unaltered and will arrange
a meeting in June to which the
concerned resident will be invited.
Councillors acknowledged Mr
Boot’s long experience and his
expertise in matters relating to
conservation, and registered their
appreciation of his valued work for
the council over many years.
Grove Lake site
A quotation of £300 was accepted
for the removal of dead wood
and the removal of overhanging
branches of three trees which
overhang a garden in Holly Way
Tiptree in Bloom
Perrywood Nurseries have offered
to donate two tubs fi lled with red,
white, and blue fl owers to be sited
in front of the community centre,
and to provide plants for the
large container in Church Road.
Councillors were delighted with
this generous offer which they
accepted gladly. It was noted that
the matter of watering will need to
be addressed.
Play area
It was reported that, contrary
to a communication received
from Colchester BC repairs to
the drainage on the Coriander
Road play area are considered
unsatisfactory. The area, it was
reported, is so uneven, with deep
holes, that it is a potential hazard.
A letter will be sent to Colchester,
with copy to Priti Patel MP, stating
that immediate work should be
undertaken or the area closed.
Trees
a) A tree for The Centre, to replace
the one vandalised, is still being
investigated, problems being
the small size of aperture, in the
paving, into which it has to fi t and
the possibility of there still being
fragments of roots left deep down.
b) It was agreed that the Tiptree
in Bloom memorial tree, now to
be known also as the Jubilee tree
should be planted on Windmill
Green; a councillor and one of the
council’s workmen will determine
the exact location.
