When Senate Bill 374 was passed in 2013,
Nevada finally allowed for the establishment
of state licensed cannabis businesses
including; cultivation, production, laboratories
and dispensaries. Even before the
bill was officially signed into law, many
people saw the infinite possibilities that lie
within the industry.
Christopher Hussey is one of those people
who saw the opportunities and made a
decision to get in on the ground floor. Last
year, he chose to join forces with a small
group of trusted friends and fellow patients,
in order to apply for a license from the state
for a medical marijuana establishment—
specifically a cultivation center-and they
succeeded!
Lifestyle: Where did your
interest in cultivation begin?
C.H. “I grew up in a rural area in Saratoga
Springs, New York. As a kid I would help my
parents in the garden, growing vegetables,
flowers, transplanting, and fertilizing…As a
teen, I spent the summers working at the
horse farm across the street, where I
learned the intricate art behind planting and
tending to hay fields. I was introduced to
the idea of harvesting, drying, curing and
storing an agricultural crop.
I found the drying and curing process
required to produce quality hay for horses
to be quite interesting. The owner of the
farm, Fred, was generous enough to share
his vast knowledge with me. He worked
from sunrise to sunset every day to make
sure that the hay he produced was the
highest quality possible. His constant strive
for perfection was an inspiration for me to
always do my best.”
