A Patient’s Perspective My name is Trinidad. I am a professional baker, edibles consultant, cannabis advocate and Nevada MMJ patient. I want to share a little about myself and my experience with the medical side of cannabis. I was introduced to the idea of cannabis as medicine a little more than 3 years ago when I met a guy named Craig; who was selling his trucks to my buddy. Keeping in mind that I had never met this guy before, he comes out and starts talking with me about marijuana and right there starts to tell me his personal struggle fighting against brain cancer for many years. At first, I could have cared less about his story and just wanted to get the trucks and leave but then something stopped me and I really started listening to him. I realized I felt for him and the conversation kept on going. I really didn’t know anything about what he was saying; I had always thought you “smoked pot to get stoned” and now here’s this guy telling me its medicine, specifically his medicine that he uses to treat his brain cancer! To add to it, this guy was told by his doctors that he had only six months to live-and yet here we were talking, against all odds, 8 years later. My mind was blown! so that I could safely have access to the medicine I needed. Over the next few months, I became good friends with the guy and he inspired me to learn to make infused products for myself. Being a baker by trade for over 30 years, it was only natural for me to start making infused baked goods. I get to use my baking skills and creativity to come up with all sorts of new goodies while maintaining the very high standards for how products look and taste that I have set for myself. I have been making edibles for about three years now, this is how I feel I can do the greatest good for myself, other patients and the cannabis community. I get involved with community, actively participate in local advocacy events and try to learn more about cannabis so that I can help educate and teach other people what I once didn’t know: that it’s not all about “getting stoned.” The guy who introduced me to all this, Mr. BMF- as I like to call him-has since passed away. Without having met him, I don’t know if I’d be where I am right now doing what I love with a passion. I get emotional when I talk about it. Craig is missed but he will never be forgotten. At this point in the conversation I mentioned to him that I have been diagnosed with and suffer from chronic back pain and a sometimes debilitating condition called vertigo; so he goes inside for a minute and comes back out with cannabisinfused butter and cooking oil to give me to try at home and let him know how it works. That night, I get home and try a very little bit of the stuff and low and behold a few hours later my symptoms and pain are gone!
