ESASO | A vision of collaboration | Page 13 Regulation for the Diploma of Specialist in Advanced Ophthalmology Studies Section I: Generalities Art. 1: Field of application This document regulates the admission procedures to the European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO), the procedures for the acknowledgement of study credits and for the tuition fees. Art. 2: Study plan 1 The Diploma Superior Specialist in Ophthalmology (DiSSO) is a post-graduate Diploma offered by ESASO. 2 The study plan is modular and is established annually. Each module is generally of 40 course-hours and includes individual or group assignments. Art. 3: Audience The DiSSO is aimed mainly at practitioners and is thus organised in order not to interfere with their professional activities. Art. 4: Field of application 1 The Diploma of Superior Specialist in Ophthalmology (DiSSO) is awarded to candidates who have a certified attendance to 5 modules (5 weeks in total). 2 An attendance certificate is issued for each module. Section II: Admission Art. 5: Procedure The Admissions Board (AB) is responsible for the admission procedure. The AB is formed by the Executive Director and two members appointed by the Scientific Council. The AB evaluates the applications and decides upon the admissions. The decisions of the AB are final. Art. 6: Admission requirements • Master of Medicine obtained at an university acknowledged by its respective country regulation • Specialisation degree in Ophthalmology obtained according to current regulation For degrees that do not pertain to these requirements, the AB shall decide accordingly.
Art. 7: Application The request for application must be submitted by means of the official form and accompanied by a motivation letter. Applicants are admitted to the School by availability and by positioning within the ranking based on the reported total score. In case of renunciation, the subsequent candidates in the list will be admitted. Art. 8: Ranking The AB evaluates the applications that comply with the requisites and establishes a list based on the following criteria: • Graduate degree and thesis 25/100 • Reported exam grade of the specialisation course 25/100 • CV 20/100 • Personal interview, if necessary 20/100 • English language 10/100 Section III: Tuition fees ESASO | A vision of collaboration | Page 14 Art. 9: Fees The fees cover tuition, course material, lunches (at the USI canteen) and lodging at partner hotels. Art. 10: Payments The fee is paid with one single advanced installment, 30 - 45 days prior to the beginning of the module. Differed payments for each individual module are not foreseen. Art. 11: Renunciation After commencement of the module to which the participant has been admitted, the relative fee will not be reimbursed in case of renunciation. Section IV: Miscellaneous Art. 12: Exceptions Under extraordinary circumstances may the ESASO Board repeal in part to the present Regulation, albeit only in favour of the student. Art. 13: Validity The present Regulation will take effect on February 10th, 2010.
