the Board of Directors of Al Mawakeb have
joined efforts to establish a consultancy and
management firm under the name of Academia
Management Solutions International – AMSI.
AMSI now concurrently owns and manages Al
Mawakeb Schools and the International School
of Al Koura in Lebanon. We are also proud to
announce that AMSI has launched another
school, International School of Arts and
Sciences (ISAS), for operation in September
2007 in Al Warqaa, Dubai. ISAS has been meticulously
developed with the same advanced academic
criteria and bold applications that we have
always set out to achieve, but it encompasses a
new and unique university preparatory program.
The ISAS curriculum offers pre-engineering, premedicine,
pre-business studies, and pre-ICT that
help our students in seeking their ambitions and
making intelligent choices about their careers.
AMSI will play a vital role in the shaping of the
next generation leaders, entrepreneurs, doctors,

Young Business Leaders Awards
Last year, our students soared and
won first place at the Young
Entrepreneur Competition organized
by the Mohammed bin Rashid
Establishment for Young Business
Leaders. This year, their creativity
and enthusiasm earned us two special awards.
The first award, Best Young Entrepreneur,
was
scooped by
the team ‘Real Heroes’,
whose project
involved creating four
storybooks about Sheikh Rashid,
Sheikh Maktoum, Sheikh Zayed and
Sheikh Mohammed. Amna, Noor, Inaam and
Dana were inspired by these great leaders
and decided to create books that focus on
their lives and explore their roles as heroes
and role models of the younger generations.
The second award was given to Al
Mawakeb Schools in recognition of
unmatched commitment to develop and
encourage young leaders and innovation.
We received the award for Best
Educational Institute in Entrepreneurial

Education, which is an exceptional honor
usually awarded to universities. The awards
were presented by Sheikh Mohammad Bin
Rashid Al Maktoum at a special ceremony
in the Dubai International Exhibition

We walked away with our awards feeling
proud of our achievements and eager to

Jibal El Sawwan
The scene was set
in the simplicity and
warmth of an old village
town. The ambiance radiated
with history and culture.
The music thundered throughout
the theater, and the stage shook
underneath stomping feet as we
watched our students
bring to life a play about defiance,
heroism, and sacrifice.
Two thousand people gathered
to watch the musical Jibal Al
Sawwan unfold at the Dubai
Trade Center. Finally, the long
months of hard work, preparation,
and rehearsals paid off. We

Brothers, which was met by the cheering of an
elated audience, played throughout the show.

Much to their
delight, the story
was filled with
historic twists,
imaginary characters
and a good
dose of humor.
Every moment
was captivating.
The acting
enthralled us, the music moved us, and the dances galvanized
us. The audience left the theater feeling proud
and overwhelmed by the incredible vigor and amazing
talent that poured out of our own Al Mawakeb students
that night.
The performance was simply breathtaking!
The play received royal patronage from Her Royal
Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His
Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

1 st Engineering &Technology Fair - AUD
This year, our school decided to participate in the first Engineering
and Technology Fair organized by the American University in
Dubai, confident that our students are bright and distinguished, and
fully aware that they will dominate the whole event and mark it with
their own spirit and enthusiasm. Seventeen students from Al Barsha
arrived to AUD with their teachers, both feeling confident that they
would get most of the prizes. When the winners were announced,
Al Mawakeb School students got most of the prizes for their distinguished
projects:

the prize for the
best participating
school. The prize
awarded is an all-inclusive one
year scholarship in industrial
engineering at AUD. We thank
AUD for its efforts throughout
the event and congratulate our

Robotics
Yet another competition earned us another victory
by our dynamic students. The Carnegie Mellon
University - Botball Challenge, a US-based competition
that pushes students to learn how to design,
assemble and program functional robots. This was
a new challenge for students to prove their potential
in the world of engineering and technology.
The competition started when two of our students
traveled to Qatar to attend a condensed
workshop in robotics and programming at
Carnegie Mellon
University. They
returned, three
days later bringing
the challenge
home to Al
Mawakeb School
as they shared
with their team

or bio-technology, and I think
robotics and programming will
help me in my future career,”

their creations at the Botball Challenge in front

our students. Not only did it engage them in

Nabil Nasr, President of Al Mawakeb School, and
Mr. Adonis Nasr, CEO of the school’s parent
company Academia Management Solutions
International (AMSI).
Al Mawakeb is the first school in the UAE to
embrace wireless and mobile computer technology
as a substitute for hard-copy teaching materials
through its Notebooks for Books campaign.
Samir Al-Schamma, Intel General Manager GCC,
said, “Digital transformation is a key to the economic
future of the UAE and the region and the
educational welfare of our students.”
He added, “The efforts of Al Mawakeb and
AMSI to fully integrate ICT into teaching are a
valuable example for the education community to
follow and an exciting glimpse of what can be

Al Mawakeb School’s
N4B classrooms are for
students of grades 11 and 12.
They use laptop computers instead
of books and an interactive white
board instead of a traditional
blackboard.

Al Mawakeb... a special home for 14 years....
14 years today, as parents escorted their 3 year old children into
the school, we all attempted to deal with crying and agitated kids,
but within minutes, an overwhelming exhilaration took over, a feeling
that the journey they were about to take was going to be filled
with revelations and growth.
Our teary-eyed kindergarteners went through an intense journey of
change, self-discovery and development. Together, we witnessed
their transition from hesitant and confused children, to rebellious
and adventurous teenagers and finally to fine young men and
women each with a strong voice and presence.
Our goal has always been to educate you to become independent
thinkers and lifelong learners. We provided you with a unique and
exceptionally nurturing environment that fostered in you an attitude

Every year, we honor a select group of students who have gone that extra mile to be extra-ordinary.
There are two faces to this process, academic and non-academic...
Valedictorian: is the student who achieves
Highest Distinction and the highest grade point
average among the seniors.
Salutatorian: is the student who achieves Highest
Distinction and the second highest grade point
average among the seniors.
The Green Stole: is worn by seniors who graduate
with Highest Distinction
The Yellow Stole: is worn by seniors who will
complete Grade 12 with Distinction
The Grey Stole: is worn by seniors who will
complete Grade 12 with High Achievement
The Golden Rope: is worn by seniors who graduate
with Achievement
The Silver Rope: is worn by seniors who will
complete Grade 12 with Merit.
In addition to the aforementioned academic honors,
Al Mawakeb prides itself on having within its
student body a large contingency of students who
distinguish themselves in non-academic fields.
We honor them tonight with two awards.
The Recognition Award: Presented to students
for altruistic contribution to the school and its
community through leadership and participation.
The Outstanding Athlete Award: Presented to
students in recognition of outstanding athletic
achievement.

Tonight also, two graduating seniors will receive the ECIS SHIELD
(European Council for International Schools):
ENG Awarded to a student who is a good representative of her/his own
country, with a positive attitude towards the life and culture of others, able to
converse in at least two languages, a contributing force in the life of the school,
with the ability to bring differing people together into a sense of community, thus
furthering the cause of international understanding.
FR Prix accordé à un étudiant /une étudiante qui représente bien son pays
avec une attitude positive et ouverte à la vie et à la culture des autres, capable de
