Welcome...<br />
On your first day of school, you probably cried. You were taking the first<br />
step in the one hundred mile to becoming an educated person. No<br />
doubt, your parents cried too, proud that you were starting school, proud<br />
that you were beginning your role as a productive member of society, a<br />
person who would acquire knowledge, absorb it into your system and<br />
synergize the total of your acquisitions to produce a creation of your<br />
own, you.<br />
You came to school with an open mind. We have tried to satisfy your<br />
thirst and hunger by keeping abreast with the latest trends in education<br />
and technology. We provided you with a suitable environment, a place<br />
where you could discover the truths that are out there and unravel the<br />
mysteries that bewilder and confound the interested until they are satisfied.<br />
We supported you and prompted you to strive and seek until you<br />
find the answers.<br />
Our part is over and so you are leaving us in search of higher education.<br />
You have grown, and so has your extended family which includes your<br />
friends and your teachers and your school. You became a member of our<br />
family just as we became a member of yours. We are overcome by a mixture<br />
of pride and sadness to see you there, looking so fine in your caps<br />
and flowing gowns as you celebrate your last day of school.<br />

Awards & Honors<br />
“The Difference between Ordinary and Extraordinary is that<br />
little EXTRA….”<br />
Every year, we honor a select group of students who have gone<br />
that extra mile to be extra-ordinary.<br />
There are two faces to this process, academic and non-academic...<br />
Valedictorian: is the student who achieves Highest Distinction<br />
and the highest <strong>grad</strong>e point average among the seniors.<br />
Salutatorian: is the student who achieves Highest Distinction<br />
and the second highest <strong>grad</strong>e point average among the seniors.<br />
The Green Stole: is worn by seniors who <strong>grad</strong>uate with<br />
Highest Distinction.<br />
The Yellow Stole: is worn by seniors who <strong>grad</strong>uate with<br />
Distinction.<br />
The Grey Stole: is worn by seniors who <strong>grad</strong>uate with High<br />
Achievement.<br />
The Golden Rope: is worn by seniors who <strong>grad</strong>uate with<br />
Achievement.<br />
The Silver Rope: is worn by seniors who <strong>grad</strong>uate with Merit.
In addition to the aforementioned academic honors, <strong>Al</strong> <strong>Mawakeb</strong> prides<br />
itself on having within its student body a large contingency of students<br />
who distinguish themselves in non-academic fields. We honor them<br />
tonight with three awards:<br />
Recognition Award: presented to students for altruistic contribution to<br />
the school and its community through leadership and participation.<br />
Outstanding Athlete Award: presented to students in recognition of<br />
outstanding athletic achievement.<br />
Award for Excellence in Fine Arts: presented to students in recognition<br />
of outstanding potential in the field of Fine Arts.<br />
Tonight also, two <strong>grad</strong>uating seniors will receive the ECIS SHIELD<br />
(European Council for International <strong>School</strong>s) which is awarded:<br />
“To a student who is a good representative of her/his own country, with<br />
a positive attitude towards the life and culture of others, able to converse<br />
in two languages, a contributing force in the life of the school, with the<br />
ability to bring differing people together into a sense of community, thus<br />
furthering the cause of international understanding.”<br />
Congratulations Class of 2008 and Awards recipients for all your<br />
accomplishments and achievements. This is but the beginning of a long<br />
journey..., and as the new class of <strong>Al</strong> <strong>Mawakeb</strong> <strong>School</strong> alumni, you travel<br />
it carrying us with you as we hold you close in our memories…<br />
