Literacy Navigator ©2012 provides a series of lessons in which students learn strategies for<br />
reading informational text. Reflecting the latest research on reading comprehension, and using<br />
flexible modules that tackle the demands of Common Core State Standards, students will<br />
develop the necessary skills that take them beyond their independent reading level.<br />
Used as a supplement or as an intervention, Literacy Navigator is made up of five different<br />
levels, with 30 Foundations Lessons, 15 Word Study Lessons, and pre- and post- test<br />
assessments. Each 45- to 50-minute lesson includes an introduction, work time, guided practice,<br />
and reflection. Level locators (pre-tests) in the Assessment and Reporting Online System (ARO)<br />
pinpoint the comprehension level of informational text for the student in order to determine<br />
appropriate level placement. Checkpoints then monitor and benchmark students as they<br />
progress, while post-tests assess student improvement.<br />

With the rigor of Common Core State Standards in every lesson, Literacy Navigator is<br />
carefully matched to the levels of both the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) and the<br />
Qualitative Assessment of Text Difficulty. This modular supplemental reading program helps<br />
students succeed at high-stakes reading assessments.<br />
