Waverley College congratulates the Class of 2010 Year 11 Accelerated Students George Bassil Mathematics 2U 90 Lawrence Ho Mathematics 2U 90 Timothy Kastengren Mathematics 2U 91 Luke Phillips Mathematics 2U 91 Luke Saad Mathematics 2U 94 Indra Taslim Mathematics 2U 96 Congratulations to the following students who received a notional Band 6 in Extension courses: Andrew Karras Mathematics Extension 2 Matthew Davies Mathematics Extension 2 Matthew Knox Mathematics Extension 2 Chun Wah Wong Mathematics Extension 2 Rui Qi Zhang Mathematics Extension 2 The Waverley College Higher School Certificate class of 2010 has achieved excellent results across arange of subjects. I congratulate the Year 12 students of 2010, as well as their families and teachers,on these very good results. School Certificate 2010 Waverley College has achieved School Certificate results above the state average in all six examinations. Highlights of the School Certificate Results 96% of students received Band 4 or above in the English Literacy Examination. 92% of students received Band 4 or above in the Science examination. 81% of students received Band 4 or above in the Australian Geography, Civics and Citizenship examination compared with 59% across the state. In the Computer Skills Examination 71% of students scored Highly Competent, compared to 55% across the state. From these results we look forward with confidence that students have established a firm foundation for their studies as they begin the final two years of their secondary education. Mr C. J. N Z C R I C K E T T O U R th On Tuesday 11 of January 2011 25 students from years 10, 11 and 12 and 4 staff members, Mr. Boyd, Mr. Banboukjian, Mr. McCallum and Mr. Ryan boarded an Air New Zealand flight bound for Christchurch and 13 days of activities which concluded with a week long cricket festival held at Nelson College. First stop on the tour was the beautiful Queenstown. Here the tour party enjoyed the outdoor adventures of Jet boating, white water rafting and some very competitive luge racing. The tour then moved up the west coast to experience a guided walk on the Fox glacier. Nelson was the next stop with four games being played over 5 days at sunny Nelson. The senior team won 2 of the 4 games with Andrew Coles and Daniel Kitto performing with the bat and Harry James with the ball. The development team also won 2 of 4 games with Samuel Fassos picking up a hat-trick in the final victory. A ferry ride to Wellington had some feeling a little green around the gills before the return flight to smiling parents on rd Sunday 23 January. All boys and staff had a great time. The boys were complimented on their appearance and behaviour at many places around the South Island. Special thanks to the staff who attended this tour including Mr. James Maloney who had to remain behind awaiting the birth of his second child. Their hard work with fund raising, putting together the tour booklet and collecting all the paper work over a 12 month period as well as outfitting the tour group was very much appreciated. The parents who helped raise the funds to make this tour a memorable one for the boys deserve a big thank you. I hope the tour has given the boys a sense of what gems lie beyond our shores for possible future adventures. Mr. John W Boyd, Tour Organiser New Zealand Cricket Tour January 2011 Waverley College students have continued the school's great achievements in sport over the last twelve months with some excellent achievements. Not only did our Basketballers travel to the USA for a tour, our cricketers also ventured over to New Zealand. There have been some excellent individual performances and representative honours recently that are worth congratulations. These include: ? Jed Holloway being selected for the 2010 Australian Schoolboys Rugby tour of the South Pacific ? 2011 School Captain Nicholas Brbot being selected for both the NSW and Australian Water Polo squads nd ? Cameron Harkins 2 place in backstroke at the National titles ? Jakk Wilson and Bart Kratchovil also being selected in the NSW Water Polo squad th ? David Buckland's 4 place at the National Track and Field Championships nd rd ? Aidan Anderson's 2 and 3 placing's at the National Track and Field Championsips (Aidan was also the 2009 Australian Athletic Team's captain). I am sure that these young men will serve as an inspiration for more boys to achieve at the highest levels in their sports this year. Congratulations on behalf of the whole school community.
